General News for February 2015

GAINESVILLE, GA -- Jonesboro has strung together win after win after win this season thanks to hard-nosed, in-your-face defense. Why stop now? The Cardinals travelled 67 miles north and put on an absolute show of defensive force to advance to the Final Four with a 50-35 win on Thursday night.

The March to Macon continues and our HoopSeen.com team previews the brackets and makes predictions in the AAA, AA, A brackets. Our team has been in gyms all season long in the state of Georgia. Who do they like as we get closer and closer to crowning state champs?

With the high school basketball season complete and time before AAU begins, 2016 Bayside Academy (AL) guard Spencer Newman took the opportunity to visit two college campuses over the weekend.

The state basketball playoffs are off and running in the state of Georgia. Carter Wilson and Justin Young discuss the Peach State and make predictions for AAAAAA, AAAAA, AAAA brackets. Who will make the Final Four? The guys break down the brackets as we continue to March to Macon.

Wednesday night is a big game night in Georgia as the AAAAAA playoffs pin some of the best teams in the biggest classification against each other. We look at the quarterfinal games and encourage you to vote for your winners.

No. 7 Pebblebrook (24-5) at No. 9 Norcross (27-3): Easily, the most intriguing game of the entire Wednesday slate in the entire state across all classifications. Both teams are good enough to win the state championship. Pebblebrook's starting five is as good as any in the state of Georgia. On the flip side, Norcross's bench is as good as any in the state. PHS's Trhae Mitchell vs. NHS's Ricky Madison should be a terrific match-up. Expect this one to go down to the wire. All signs point to this being one of the best games we've seen in the post-season this year.

No. 13 Shiloh (26-3) at Alpharetta (25-5): One of these teams will be in the Final Four and deservingly so. Remember, Shiloh hasn't lost to a Georgia team all season long. Alpharetta's biggest loss was only by six. Three of the team's losses were by a bucket. Both teams empty the effort tank. Both teams have good guards. How will Shiloh maintain Alpharetta's size inside? How will Alpharetta contain Josh Okogie en route to the rim? Both teams have terrific coaches. Like every game in AAAAAA, this one should come down the wire.

Hillgrove (23-5) at No. 15 Tucker (27-2): Two post-season stalwarts are back again in the Elite Eight. The programs have lived at this space of the bracket over the last three years. Both teams know what it takes to get to Macon. Two things to watch: Bryce Brown is quietly having one of the best senior seasons in the state of Georgia. He's on an absolute tear, averaging 28 points a game this season. He's the most impactful guard Hillgrove will face this season. How will the Hawks slow him down in the quarterfinal? Hillgrove has nice scoring balance. Will it be an across the board punch on offense? Or will someone like Antonio Wade, Jordan Julian or Collin Sexton get hot?

Newton (22-8) at No. 1 Wheeler (27-2): David meets Goliath. Newton is riding high after eliminating Top 10 Power Poll team Tift County in the first round, then Dacula in the second round. The team is just that - a team. Now the reward for two playoff wins is a match-up at Wheeler, the state's top team with the country's top player. No one outside of Covington is giving the Rams a chance to win this one. That's perfectly fine with AAAAAA's Cinderella. The us-against-the world mentality has served them well so far. On the flip side, Wheeler is playing very well right now. In his final game at The Doug, Jaylen Brown won't leave his Marietta home court quietly. Don't be surprised to see another epic performance.

All rankings come from the HoopSeen.com Power Poll

MARIETTA, GA -- Wheeler, our No. 1 team on the Power Poll all season long, is aiming for a return trip to Macon to claim the AAAAAA title. However, getting there won't be easy.

ATLANTA, GA -- For a quarter, Lamar County was the tone-setter.

Senior-dominated teams can always be dangerous in posteaseason bracket play.

That is exactly why Pebblebrook and Pope posed a fun matchup: two teams with lots of seniors, none of which wanted to end their careers.

We are excited to announce several key components to the Elite Preview camp in Marietta, Georgia on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Long time college coach Winston Neal will serve as the camp director, Scout.com's Evan Daniels will return to evaluate talent and All-American camp decision-makers will be in town, too.

HANCEVILLE, AL--- Senior forward Gerron Scissum was all smiles Tuesday afternoon after his Lee-Huntsville (AL) squad defeated Cullman 92-69 to win the 6A Northwest Regional championship and lock in a berth in next week's Final Four in Birmingham.

WEST COBB COUNTY, GA -- The first round of the GHSA basketball playoffs tipped off on a cold and windy Tuesday night in metro Atlanta. With two quality games less than six miles apart, we took in two close and competitive games. Here's what we learned.

Balance. That is one word that describes this Norcross Blue Devils team.

On any given night, any quarter, any possession, opponents do not know who is going to beat them.

Tonight in the Blue Devils State Tournament first round 62-49 win over Berkmar, it wasn’t necessarily one player.

HANCEVILLE, AL--- When the name Wiley is thrown around in the state of Alabama, most think of Austin at Spain Park. However, he isn't the only Wiley making a name for himself this season.

Evan Wiley, a 2016 forward from Lee-Huntsville (AL), is starting to come into his own at the most important time of the year, the state playoffs.

The private schools in Atlanta have proved to be a powerhouse group while the rural county schools have star power and intrigue. How the Class AA bracket plays out in the GHSA basketball tournament is anyone's guess. We preview.

We are all set to begin tournament play. Who will go to Macon to play for a state title? Yet to be determined, but for now here’s how the Power Poll stacks up:
