Fastbreak Friday

We are off and back at it again with Fastbreak Friday, bringing to you an entire list of visitors across America and at a campus near year. While we always do our best to tabulate the most in-depth official and unofficial visit list, we also take a glance at the visitor of the week, with this week it being the deadly duo of De’Jon Jarreau and Brison Gresham headed to UMass, a spotlight on any specific conference, this week it being the ACC, and potential commits, this week it being Javin DeLaurier to Duke, Clevon Brown to Texas, and a few others that caught our eye. Last week, we hit on Amir Coffey to Minnesota, Myles Powell to Seton Hall, and Mitchell Smith to Missouri, can we stay hot in this week’s edition?

VISITOR(S) OF THE WEEK

De’Jon Jarreau and Brison Gresham made headlines earlier this week by announcing that they would be making a commitment on Monday morning at 10am. The duo out of New Orleans play both high school and travel ball together and it is pretty special to see the Louisiana native’s lure to continue to stay together and play their college ball together, just as well.

Headed to UMass this weekend, the Minutemen have done a tremendous job of working behind the scenes with the McDonough 35 High stars and now remain within the final two for the inside-outside combo. After visiting Miami last weekend, word is that Jarreau and Gresham are leaning towards the ACC bunch’s way. However, the A10 group gets the final shot at each of them this weekend before they come to a final decision that they will announce on Monday morning. UMass is involved with a bevy of high-level seniors this fall besides these two, including Bruce Brown and Breein Tyree, of who will visit Ole Miss this weekend. Within the final two for Jarreau and Gresham, having the chance to give the last shot in luring the out of region targets to the New England program is all that Derek Kellogg could have ever had asked for, thus this weekend could be a special one in Amherst.

ACC ROLLS OUT THE RED CARPET

There is a load of five-star talent taking in a few ACC campuses this weekend and many eyes need to be placed on what could come out of each visit.

Already committed to Louisville, VJ King will attempt to dish out his first assist for the ACC program whenever they bring in De’Aaron Fox. The Houston native saw LSU last weekend and while many believe that Kansas and Kentucky have the best shot at the 6-foot-3 guard, this weekend could go a long way in establishing the Cards as viable threats for the top-5 recruit.

Up north, Syracuse brings in Taurean Thompson, a Jersey transplant to the loaded Brewster Academy program, who brings toughness and versatility via his mid-range jumper on the offensive end. Xavier, SMU, and several others are in pursuit, but it is always difficult for northeast recruits in turning down the Orange. Another guy to keep an eye on is Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, a 6-foot-8 big man in the 2017 class. The Philly native has seen his stock soar and could be one to monitor in the future classes with the ACC school.

At the most southern program within the conference, Miami welcomes in Bryce Aiken. Another Jersey native, The Patrick School guard recently visited Harvard and Seton Hall and plans to commit shortly after his visit to South Beach. While the Hurricanes are favorites for the aforementioned Jarreau-Gresham package, they sure couldn’t turn down the diminutive lead guard from the northeast.

Lastly, we finish out at the two bluebloods within the conference. At UNC, the Tar Heels host Seventh Woods, the high-flying guard with composure beyond his years at the lead guard spot. South Carolina and Georgetown are the others in the race for the 6-foot-2 senior, so this week is pretty important for the Tar Heels, especially with the need to replace its star senior guard in Marcus Paige.

Just eight miles away and on commitment watch, Javin DeLaurier heads to Durham. The native of Virginia is one of the hardest playing, consistent producers from 15-feet and in throughout America. He moved his visit up to the ACC program by a month and while he does have a visit planned next week for Stanford, it wouldn’t be all that surprising for DeLaurier’s recruitment to end by Sunday evening and in Duke's favor.

COMMITMENT WATCH

We already spoke on a possible commitment of DeLaurier and Duke, so make sure to keep an eye on that one.

Just as well, Bryce Aiken is coming to a finish with his recruitment and eyes a commitment in the coming days, to go along with the Jarreau-Greshman package, with each announcing Monday morning after getting back home from UMass.

After visiting Pittsburgh last weekend, Maliek White heads to Cincinnati. The fit couldn’t be all that much better for the Virginia native as the 6-foot-1 guard is one of the toughest lead guards on the east coast and while VCU is a solid threat, the Bearcats are someone to watch.

Staying in the 513, Xavier brings in a product out of the state of Missouri with Xavier Sneed. Others such as Illinois and Kansas State are battling for the elite athlete’s signature this November, but X could call X his future home if all goes right.

UConn brings in Vance Jackson and with this being his first official visit planned, the Huskies are a serious threat for the west coast forward who brings a versatile skillset to the floor due to his size and shooting abilities.

Texas brings in three visitors this weekend headed by Braxton Blackwell and Clevon Brown. Blackwell might go the distance with his recruitment as this is his second trip taken so far, yet Clevon Brown may be one to watch. A major breakout from July, the in-state recruit is also being pursued by the likes of Kansas State and Vanderbilt, but this weekend could be his last official visit taken, that is of course the Longhorns’ hopes.

Jeff Dowtin makes his way to Rhode Island this weekend and with this being his final visit planned, the 6-foot-3 guard from the DMV plans on making a commitment shortly after between the likes of the Rams, Wichita State, and George Mason.

A junior college standout from the New York region originally, Bashir Ahmed returns home and will get to enjoy the St. John’s campus this weekend. The hard-nosed and tough forward is your throwback Big East producer and after visiting Louisville last weekend, might be someone nearing a commitment.

Indiana is in need for more depth and talent down low and this weekend, De’Ron Davis, a big fella from Colorado, heads to Bloomington. The Hoosiers have always been seen as one of the leaders for him and this weekend could be the end of the Overland High product’s recruitment.

Down in the SEC, Breein Tyree, a native of New Jersey, heads to Ole Miss. He is down to Kansas State, UMass, and the Rebels and with the final shot at landing the aggressive and talented guard, a commitment could be on the horizon.

Lastly, Florida brings in Eddie Ekiyor, a 6-foot-9 center from Canada. The big man prides himself on his energy and motor and after playing last year at New Hampton Prep in New England, the plans are for Ekiyor to attend college this January and after visiting Xavier last weekend and in missing out on Tyler Cook who committed to Iowa on Wednesday, the Gators might have a match with the tough interior producer from north of the border.
