Jared Jones becomes a name

With the start of the new school year, it also begins the heated recruitment of some of the better talents throughout the freshmen ranks. Sure, offers can be dished out before a kid settles into his first high school class, but the attention gets ramped up to another level whenever one settles in at a player’s respective high school.  A great example of this is Jared Jones, a 6-foot-9 forward at Potters House Christian Academy.

Jones, a very mobile and intellectual big man on the playing floor, brings a bevy of upside to the hardwood. He gets out and runs the floor with a purpose as he can score on the break, can face up and take his man off the bounce from 15-feet and in, is capable of hitting the mid-range jumper, and has the length and soft hands in putting a major dent in on the offensive glass. Add that all up and it is quite impressive in realizing that the Orlando native is just a freshman in high school.

Attending Potters House Christian in Jacksonville this fall, the freshman forward will play alongside Udoka Azubuike, a premier center and imposing figure on the interior within the senior class, and expect for Jones to learn a few things from the big fella. Although a bit different and more of a skilled forward than Azubuike, Jones looks to be someone that could receive a similar recruitment that Azubuike is navigating through at the moment where he is selecting from the likes of Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke for his future home.

In checking in with the impressive freshman on Saturday at the Each 1 Teach 1 Showcase in Tampa, Florida, Jones noted that he has already picked up offers from Florida, Florida State, and Wake Forest. The well-spoken and polished student in the classroom was recently inducted into the National Honor Society and seems to be the ideal college recruit. The Seminoles have already made some moves of late and his father, who played college football at the ACC program, noted that Coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff has done the most work with his son to date when it comes to recruiting him to Tallahassee.

Running with the Georgia Stars bunch this past travel season, there sure is a lot to like with Jones. He has the chance to grow to 7-feet tall, already understands how to play the game, and though he is a far way off from making a college commitment, Jared Jones seems to be in line for quite the priority recruitment from the best of programs throughout the nation.
