Jeff Dowtin eyes three schools

While Markelle Futlz, who we have covered here deeply of late due to his commitment to Washington this past weekend, tended to dominate the talk around the DC Blue Devils bunch this past summer, it would be hard to not speak on the contributions that Jeff Dowtin gave to the ball club. Standing at 6-foot-3 and capable of playing various spots in the backcourt, the St. John’s College High product showed enough upside to enhance his resume the past few months in attaining solid looks from across the nation.

Due to his quality mid-range game and intellect in the backcourt, Jeff Dowtin might not stand out with awe-inspiring athleticism at the basket or killer handles on the breakdown, but when it comes down to finding a winner at the next level, the DMV recruit fits the mold. He averaged over eight points, three rebounds, and close to two assists per game on the Under Armour circuit this past summer and made over 80-percent of his charity shot attempts. Keith Williams, Dowtin's travel coach with the DC Blue Devils, spoke on what the senior guard brings to the table. "Jeff is a really great player who can do a little bit of everything. He plays with a great pace to his game."

Now heading into his senior year at St. John’s, which is located in Washington D.C., Dowtin is focused on his recruitment. “So far, I have three official visits set up to Wichita State on August 30, George Mason on September 11, and Rhode Island on September 24.”

It would seem as if the two Atlantic 10 programs and the Missouri Valley school stand a good shot at landing the effective guard this fall where Dowtin noted that he would like to commit and sign in the early signing period come November. When asked if any schools stood out, the Blue Devils product spoke on a select few. “The three that I have planned to visit officially. They communicate with me almost every day.”

Dowtin and his family have outlined the exact specifics of what they might be looking for in a school and it seems when it comes to time to call it a day, they will come to the proper decision because of it. “I want to go to a school where I can play and not sit for two years, a place with a family-like environment, and somewhere the coaching staff and I have a close relationship.”

The transfer epidemic has raised some eyebrows lately and Dowtin mentioned this in selecting the right fit for him. “You don’t want to end up like the 600 others that transferred this past year. I want a place where I am close with the other players like a brotherhood and where I know my teammates are going to have my back when you step on the court.”

A mature, intellectual kid on and off the playing floor, look for Dowtin to take to his three upcoming visits and make a commitment shortly thereafter and one should expect for the efficient guard to develop as the years progress at whichever program he calls fit.
