2024 All-HoopSeen Association 1st Team
The 2024 HoopSeen travel season is officially in the books and, as usual, the depth of talent was fun and impressive. Our staff debated, deliberated and now delivers our First Team All-HSA for the season. These five players came through in a big way for their respective team and program and stand at the top as some of the best players in independent travel basketball.
JUSTIN BYERLY: Brewer was the best guard that I saw on our stage this past travel season. Talk about a guy that is able to get to the rim and make difficult finishes, Brewer is that guy. The Western North Carolina product is on track to be the best guard out of the area since Caleb Mills was over five years ago.
At our Best of the South in early June, we wrote:
“In his first game of the weekend, Brewer was a non-stop paint-touching machine and finished with 35 points. All of his points were on drives to the basket which were started by his dribbling ability and keeping the ball on a string throughout the game. He was either getting an easy lay-in or he was going to the free-throw line. College coaches lined the baseline for their match-up against Kountry Wayne Elite and Brewer was the best player on the floor. In Team Swish’s final game on Sunday, Brewer finished with 25 points in the win over Pro One Select Academic. He had a good amount of coaches at each of his games throughout the weekend, including Anderson University head coach Jimmie Williams, who took in nearly every game.” - Justin Byerly
JUSTIN BYERLY: Some guys have that dog in them and do whatever it takes to help their team win. Henderson could have played on a shoe circuit team, all day. He chose to stick with Chip Smith and his Tennessee Tigers program and he performed at a high-level each and every time he hit the court on our stage.
Henderson was named a Top Performer at both The Atlanta Jam and The Best of the South. We had this to say about Henderson after The Atlanta Jam:
“In probably the biggest win of the year for the Tennessee Tigers, they knocked off the talented Florida Pro in a close game throughout. Henderson was a big difference maker. He scored 15 points and some crucial baskets that sealed the deal late. Henderson is at his best when he is getting into the lane and making defenders miss. He is strong enough to finish at the rim with contact on the way to the hoop. This was a performance that had plenty of college coaches on hand to see it and Henderson looks like he can play at the next level.” - Justin Byerly
GARRETT TUCKER: Make no mistake about it, all of the players that find themselves on this list are more than deserving of being included. However, I’m a firm believer that no one was as consistently good as Josh Scott. Whether it was at Bama Jam, Best of the South, or anywhere in between, the gritty, 6-foot-6 forward moved the needle each weekend with his motor, toughness, and shooting ability.
Scott really took off at Atlanta Jam, where he converted 14 of 28 three-point attempts on the weekend and impressed onlooking college coaches in the process. I had this to say about Scott after he was named at top performer from the event:
“Scott wasted no time making a splash at the Atlanta Jam as he made five three-pointers on Friday night. He continued that throughout the weekend, making multiple treys in four games of action. He isn’t just a shooter, though. The lanky 6-foot-6 wing also showcased his playmaking and slashing abilities with several plays off the bounce and above the rim. Scott came in with some college interest but it’s safe to say that interest will grow after this weekend.” - Garrett Tucker
GARRETT TUCKER: Stephen put together a quality travel season for HoopAtlanta, culminating in a couple of impressive performances at the Best of the South in front of dozens of college coaches. The Georgia native showcased himself as a pure point guard, racking up points and assists and controlling the tempo of the game from start to finish against some of the best talent in the South. However, Stephen’s weekend performance and overall story didn’t just start out of nowhere. He had a constant build-up, dating back to the end of the high school season and taking off as the travel season began.
Justin Byerly wrote this back in April at the HoopSeen Tip-Off as Stephen shined:
“Our Georgia hoop heads have probably heard of Stephen, a 1st Team All-Region Player at Shiloh HS this past season but it was my first time seeing him on our stage. Stephen is a do-it-all guy for Hoop Atlanta and he did it against some really tough competition. He scored 12 points against Georgia Stars EYBL, he went for 19 points against Florida Pro and he had 13 points and 6 rebounds against Team Judah Nation. We have always liked consistency and Stephen embodied that this weekend for Hoop Atlanta.” - Justin Byerly
JUSTIN BYERLY: If I am taking a guy to make a shot in the Southeast from outside the three-point line, Wright is on my short list of guys that I know will make it. A shifty-guard with an impeccable ability to make big time shot after shot, Wright is the right choice. - Justin Byerly
Our main guy, Justin Young, wrote this about Wright after being named a Top Performer at our Atlanta Jam:
“Easily one of the best shooters - if not the best shooter - here at the Atlanta Jam. Wright pumped in 19.5 points a game throughout four games and 17 total made three-pointers for South Georgia Elite. Wright was unstoppable from the perimeter and was one of the best overall players and prospects in the entire event. Whenever he wanted to be a threat from the wing, he was. It was that kind of weekend from Wright and it doesn’t look like he’s going to be slowing down at all either.” - Justin Young
