Top overall performers from the 2024 Best of the South
Another Best of the South is officially behind us. Our staff was all over Cobb County Galleria and spent the entire weekend sorting out the best of the best. Meet some of the 17 and under top performers from the NCAA Live Period event.
Jarvis Wright, Triangle Offense: Going into the final game on Sunday, Wright accounted for 27 three-pointers over the course of five games, which comes out to average a little over five per contest. The sharpshooter was dominant all weekend long with Triangle Offense Elite. The 2025 guard holds offers from North Florida, Fort Valley State, Morehead State and a handful of Division II programs. He can make defenses pay with his ability to score on a set shot or moving without the ball and getting to his spots for another open look. Wright averaged over 20 points per game on the weekend. - Justin Byerly
Josh Scott, Pro One Academic Select: Just a little over a week removed from his commitment to Lipscomb, Scott didn’t have a lot to prove at Best of the South. Nevertheless, we learned a ton about the 6-foot-6 wing man over the course of the weekend. He started out the week in loud fashion, lighting up the scoreboard with a couple of big scoring games that included treys and tough finishes at the rim. But despite being committed, Scott’s motor and intensity on both ends of the floor never wavered. He showed his competitive nature and dedication to winning throughout the event. - Garrett Tucker
Cameron Stephen, Hoop Atlanta Orange: Stephen has improved every time I’ve had the chance to see him this spring and summer, and that didn’t change here at The Best of The South. Stephen has made major strides as a point guard, averaging over 10 assists per game this weekend. He’s always been able to put the ball in the basket, but his vision in the half-court to find others and set them up has now made him a complete player. In Hoop Atlanta Orange’s last game on Saturday, Stephen was on his way to what probably would have been a 20+ point double-double before the game was called. It won’t be long before his list of college suitors starts to grow. - Mekhi Mckinney
Caiden Brewer, Team Swish: In his first game of the weekend, Brewer was a non-stop paint-touching machine and finished with 35 points. All of his points were on drives to the basket which were started by his dribbling ability and keeping the ball on a string throughout the game. He was either getting an easy lay-in or he was going to the free-throw line. College coaches lined the baseline for their match-up against Kountry Wayne Elite and Brewer was the best player on the floor. In Team Swish’s final game on Sunday, Brewer finished with 25 points in the win over Pro One Select Academic. He had a good amount of coaches at each of his games throughout the weekend, including Anderson University head coach Jimmie Williams, who took in nearly every game. - Justin Byerly
Ladainian Brooks, Team Wright: College coaches lined up and down the sidelines for Brooks. The 6-foot-7 guard stands out with his size, versatility, and fluid athleticism. He stretches the floor with his shooting, can score in the paint amongst size, and act as a primary ball-handler. The South Florida product was a must-see this weekend for college programs on the lookout for a guy that can do a lot on the floor and cause mismatch problems. Brooks was undoubtedly one of the most talked about prospects in the building. - Justin Byerly
