Exploring the best unsigned seniors from the Pangos Sweet 16
The Pangos Sweet 16 is in the books and a number of teams filled the gyms at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas for the first NCAA Live Period of the spring. These four unsigned seniors really stood out.
When you have a player like Jackson, it’s easy to spot him when he’s playing. Athletically and competitively he was at a different level than the field. The Las Vegas HS senior had a triple-double on opening night and a 39-point outing on Sunday for his Hard2Guard squad. This was his final travel event of his career, per the family. A commitment is coming, likely to a NCAA Tournament team. Jackson will bring end-to-end speed and a flair for the big play. He’s a player who could be a real find as he develops in college. Keep an eye on him as an upperclassmen at the next level. His game could be surging at the right time and could be a recruiting steal in the class of 2023.
I thought Price was the most interesting available senior when I saw him back in January at The State Preview Classic. Over the weekend in Vegas, he showed the same kind of interesting flashes. Price looked like one of the best available players in the West during his showing at the Sweet 16. The 6-foot-9 forward has a nice inside-outside game that thrives with athleticism. He’s good on the glass, can stretch a floor as a shooter and will tangle it up inside as a rebounder. He’s fully qualified in the classroom and worth a good look in the second live period.
You have a respect a winner. That’s what Jones and his Salt Lake Rebels Gray did over the weekend in Las Vegas. He had the hot hand throughout the action, lighting up the nets from beyond the arc and all over the backcourt. Jones showed a nice touch as he moved around screens and got shots within the action. He played hard throughout and knew how to get into space to get up a quick-release triple. Once the defense dialed into him being a shooter, Jones showed that he could play above the rim with a drive to the rim. The unsigned senior had a strong final HS year at Westlake HS in Saratoga Springs, UT.
Always steady, always involved in the right plays, Nwotite has been one of the constants that we’ve seen early this spring. He is a battle-tested, and on-court trusted guard. A sound decision-maker and smart play-maker, Nwotite has college-ready skill for the right program. He checks a lot of boxes and consistently puts together showing that warrant a spot at the next level. This weekend was no different.
