BP's Three Things from Day 2 of the Georgia Cup III

Ah, Cup season is back upon us. With the first two down, it's time for round three and it has not disappointed through the first two days. Day 2 was full of action as the games got more intense as the day went on with teams fighting to make it to bracket play. There were a number of high scoring performances (including a 30-ball) athletic dunks, and superb 3-point shooting. Check out the three things that stood out to me.

Brennan Wansley 30-ball

Brennan Wansley absolutely went off in a late afternoon win over SP Elite. There is not other way to put it, the kid had it going. Shots behind the arc, mid range pull ups, and acrobatic finishes in the lane - he was scoring it from all over. The defense threw different looks at him as he heated up, but it did not make a difference. He was simply feeling it this game. Every time SP Elite would take the lead or go on a run, he would hit a timely shot to shift the momentum back to Drill Academy. I have not even mentioned his efficient 3-point shooting. Of those 31 points, 21 of them came from deep as he knocked down seven triples. If he keeps this type of play up, it is hard to imagine Drill Academy not walking away with the 16U Championship tomorrow.

"Georgia Cup's Kyle Korver"

Yep, you read that right. Freshman Matthew Clausen has been tabbed as the Kyle Korver of the Georgia Cup. This kid had the gym going crazy. It got to the point that each time he shot the ball, 90% of the crowd would stand up holding up the 3-point hand signal. Clausen knocked down seven 3-pointers for a game-high 21 points in the Classic City Baller's big win. He has a smooth shot that he gets off quickly. What I liked most was how he never forced a shot no matter how hot he got. He did not take one "heat check" shot. Each of his shot attempts were off of good looks.
