Best of the available players in North Carolina 2020 class
A small portion of North Carolina’s class of 2020 is starting to find homes at the college level. While there are nearly 30 players already committed there are still a number of players who are on the board.
Some are closer than others to ending their respective recruitments. Some are looking to wait until the spring to pick a school. In this piece we go through the best player at each position who is still on the board from the Tar Heel State.
Moore is one of the more athletic guards in the Southeast and has seen his recruitment gain a little more traction since college coaches have been allowed to watch fall workouts, picking up an offer from DePaul and Georgetown. He took an official visit to DePaul over a week ago and has taken one to Providence. NC State is no longer involved, and I could see this recruitment dragging out another month or so.
Carr is one of the more dynamic guards in the state. This is an interesting recruitment with the way that eastern North Carolina has been under-recruited in the past. Jerome Robison and Kyran Bowman are both prospects that didn’t have any high-major offers until spring and are now both in the NBA. Carr may not be a guy that is at that level, but year after year a kid from Eastern North Carolina ends up at a high-major program in the spring. He holds offers from USC-Upstate and Rider. He tells HoopSeen that UNC-Asheville, Campbell and Rider have been in contact the most lately.
The son of former Houston Rocket Vernon “Mad Max” Maxwell, the 6-foot-2 shooting guard recently cancelled his visit to Georgia Tech and took an official visit to NC State this past weekend. He holds offers from Georgetown, Temple, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, NC State, Gonzaga, Xavier, West Virginia, Marquette, Louisville, Texas A&M, Providence, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. With NC State being his first official visit, I could see this recruitment going into the spring.
We saw Hall on two occasions on our HoopSeen stage. During the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions where he was named to the all-tournament team and The Best of the South. He was named to the HoopSeen All-Shoe Team in July. He has already visited Louisville and is taking his second official visit to NC State on Thursday. Blue-blood programs, Duke and North Carolina have yet to offer Hall but things could change by the spring if his recruitment holds out that long.
Aidoo is the top available power forward in the class. He recently took an unofficial visit to Houston and has offers from Appalachian State and High Point. The 6-foot-11 Aidoo is is agile, can run the floor, block shots and rebound. So, the bigger decision for Aidoo could ultimately be whether he goes to prep school for a year because of his young age or jumps on one of the offers that he has.
The native of Calhoun Falls, South Carolina is a grown man. With shoulders and a frame that would rival most college big men, Belton has a pro body. He holds offers from Texas A&M, Wake Forest, UMBC, South Carolina, Drexel, Hofstra, UNLV, Elon, Lasalle and Rhode Island. He has recently suffered a small set-back recently and is out 6-8 weeks with a broken wrist.
