Bob #Gibbons Tournament of Champions Spotlight: Ahmil Flowers
The yellow jersey was a blur when Greensboro Warriors wing Ahmil Flowers went flying by the scorers table. Then he blew by a defender, took off from the mid right block and slammed home one of his several rim-rattling dunks.
We took notice, Mr. Flowers. We took notice.
The strong-bodied 6-foot-4 guard from Grimsley High School (NC) was one of our top overall performers. We knew it. So did the opposition. So did the refs. So did veteran scorekeepers.
Everyone was talking about No. 23 in the gold Greensboro Warriors jersey. Mr. Flowers made ya take notice. That’s been the fun of the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions since it has moved down to the state of Georgia after two decades in North Carolina.
In year’s past, players from Greensboro would always shine on this grand stage of the travel basketball circuit. Flowers joined a historic past of players from the city in between Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham.
Flowers averaged 25 points a game over the course of four games at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions and had his best game against MEBO of the Nike EYBL.
Flowers played well at Phenom Hoops's G3 Showcase. Watch him. You’ll see what everyone in the South is starting to see.
College coaches are starting to see, too. Western Carolina, Elon and Mars Hill have offered him scholarships, Flowers said. Appalachian State, North Carolina A&T, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina (where he’ll be for their elite camp next month) and Virginia Tech. He’s visited UNC Greensboro unofficially.
That list of schools will certainly grow. He’s earned that.
