Mountain Brook guard Colby Jones recaps his Alabama unofficial, along with future potential visits.
There's been very few road blocks for former Pinson Valley guard Colby Jones as he's traveled his new path to a 17-3 start. After coming into this season with high expectations, there's been no dip in production as his seamless fit has helped his team earn wins over IMG, Meadowcreek, and Olive Branch. After being on campus at Alabama for the second time since last season, 2020 Jones recapped his visit with Mountain Brook teammate Trendon Watford.
"It was good. It was a great atmosphere down there. They got a great win. The atmosphere was crazy. I remember one time, the Kentucky fans started chanting and the Alabama fans just overpowered them. It was crazy"
"We haven't really talked about playing together after high school". Jones said about himself and Watford. "We're just trying to figure out what school is best for us. If it is the same school then great, if it's not, that's ok."
Having offers from UAB, Samford, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Troy and Harvard, there's another Conference USA program that Jones expects to get involved.
"Yale, Iowa State, and Western Kentucky. Those three are showing the most right now" Jones said about those showing interest.
"I know that Western Kentucky has been talking to me heavy. I think they may offer me when I go up there this month to catch a game."
Back in October, Jones told our Garrett Tucker that he had finalized a date for an official visit to Harvard.
"It's a beautiful campus. Old school building but its really beautiful. The school is like in a strip town so you won't get bored. Great staff, great coaches. I worked out with the players for a little so it was great hanging out with them."
With only a few miles logged for both official and unoffial visits, Jones anticipates more visits despite not having any dates locked in.
"I took my visit to Harvard. I've been down to Auburn one time for an unofficial. I haven't really been to many schools but I plan on taking more officials before my junior year is over with. I don't really know right now." Jones said about who he'll visit. "Probably the schools that are far away because I can go visit schools close to me anytime."
As of now, we have Jones slated in our number three spot in Alabama's 2020 rankings. Jones impressed our staff at our Alabama Fall Preview with his ability to play craft together great possessions. His play earned him a top five 2020 prospect award, a recognition that he earned amongst 300+ prospects. With the in-state high majors hovering around, don't be surprised if they eventually turn their interest into an offer. With no scheduled visits and an upward trending recruitment, there appears to still be time for others to get involved. Look for other high academic programs to also take advantage of a race that appears to have no current front runners.
