Carolina Preview camp: Team 7 evals

Our first Carolina Preview camp had a ton of the state’s top players under one roof. After reviewing our notes, here's a breakdown of everyone on Team 7

Jordan Askew, 2020 G, Dorman HS-Upward Stars

Jordan Askew’s athleticism and shooting ability shined through as he made consistent plays through al 3 games. The Dorman guard had moments where his feel as a lead guard proved serviceable as he could take the reigns of the offense without it coming to a standstill. IF a driving lane didn’t open within the first few seconds of touching the ball, Askew kept the ball moving to keep others engaged in the action.

Cooper Fowler, 2019 F, JL Mann-Upward Stars Upstate

Cooper Fowler's passing was on another level at our Carolina Preview camp. This was just one of the many things that ultimately landed him on our top performer's list. Read what our staff had to say here.

Adonis Davis, 2021 G, Blackville Hilda-Team Loaded

Once you get past the frame that Adonis Davis is carrying around then you’ll notice a player that’s fully capable of using it. Davis threw his body around, making some athletic plays around the basket and open court.

Howard Frazier Jr. 2020 G, Westwood-SC Focus

Howard Frazier used a solid 1-2 dribble pullup from the midrange to pace himself well when he couldn’t get deep into the paint. The SC Focus guard showed good patience to not force the action but to rather take what the sagging big man was giving him. Good elevation on him shot allowed for easy attempts as Frazier would stop and pop numerous times throughout the day.

Jett Hammes, 2021 G, Pendleton-Anderson

Some nifty floaters by Anderson guard Jett Hammes showed his overall craftiness and feel for the game. Hammes threw a couple of tear drops up over the help defense as he was self-aware enough to not directly challenge shot blocking big men. His shot from behind the arc also landed when he was provided with catch and shoot opportunities.

Dillon Jones, 2020 F, Keenan-Upward Stars SE

Unarguably one of the most talented players in attendance, Upward Stars forward Dillon Jones boast both the size and talent to make him a force going forward. With the production he showed at our camp, it was easy to call him a top performer. Read more on his performance here.

Isaiah Bruster, 2020 G, Spartanburg High-Upward Stars

Defensively, a man on a mission from the moment he walked in was Upward Stars guard Isaiah Bruster. His hands were active, and his mind was running as he often positioned himself to get deflections in the passing lanes. Offensively he was just as active as a good first step made him seem like he was shot out of a cannon. During his drives, he never minced dribbles as his approach was often straight line and to the rim.

 Kidd Brizek, 2022 G, Powdersville-Velocity

Some good changing of speeds allowed Velocity guard Kidd Brizek to feast on slow-footed defenders. His size and strength made him a versatile offensive weapon and that was on full display at our fall preview. His size paid off on the other end as well as he h to pull down his fair share of rebounds.

Joshua Beadle, 2021 G, Cardinal Newman-Upward Stars SE

The sky is the limit for this Upward Stars combo guard as he showed some rare traits for such a young prospect. Scoring and especially his passing was on display at camp, leading our staff to name him a top performer. Read more from our staff here.

Bostun Rivers, 2019 F, IRMO-Playground Elite

It's not often you see a guard post up on another at camp, but Bostun Rivers seemed more than capable of doing so. The Playground elite guard made some solid back to the basket moves that showed his feet and feel for the game. On the other end, he was even more impressive as he understood positioning and help rotations. The cherry on top? A drawn charge made him stand out from the 80+ kids in attendance that didn’t attempt one.
