2020 guard Colby Jones locks in Harvard official visit, talks recruitment

2020 Mountain Brook (AL) shooting guard Colby Jones has been recognized as one of the top prospects in Alabama's 2020 class and rightfully so. The talented sharpshooter displayed his skill-set and scoring prowess a few weeks ago at the Alabama Fall Preview and was pinned as one of our top performers.

To no one's surprise, many college coaches have started to turn up their recruiting efforts with Jones. The junior already holds several scholarship offers.

"I have offers from UAB, Samford, Troy, Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, and Harvard," Jones told HoopSeen.com.

Powerhouse Mountain Brook has been a well-traveled destination for college coaches this fall. According to Jones, Harvard, Yale, UAB, Troy, Lipscomb, Samford, and UNLV have all been in to see him thus far. He also plans to repay one of the schools with a visit of his own.

"I'm taking an official visit to Harvard on October 12-14. I'm definitely interested in Harvard. It's a great academic school and one of the top programs in the Ivy League. I have a great relationship with one of the assistant coaches, Coach [Donny] Guerinoni. He is the coach that came down to see me a few weeks ago."

Sporting a 4.1 GPA, Jones is a no-brainer for high academic schools. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has a polished and advanced skill-set that mid-major and high-major programs are looking for. Jones' sharpshooting acumen is just the tip of the iceberg in his game.

UAB has also made it a priority to recruit Jones. The Blazers were the first school to extend a scholarship offer to him as a freshman and the hometown school has continued to develop a strong relationship with the staff.

"I like how UAB runs their offense and defense. I also like how they make an effort to constantly keep in contact with me. I have a good relationship with all the coaches, and they told me I'm a top priority for them in my class, so it feels good to hear that."

Middle Tennessee State's Nick McDevitt and his staff also have an interesting pitch to Jones and his family. Colby's older brother, C.J., transferred from Arkansas to the Conference USA powerhouse in the spring and will be eligible to play in 2019-20. The brothers could potentially play with (or against) each other in 2020-21, as C.J. would be a senior and Colby would be a freshman.

"They're a great team in Conference USA and I have a good relationship with Coach Dixon. They have also said I am a top priority for them, so it's good to hear that from them," he explained. "I've never been able to play with my brother, so that would be a cool opportunity."

While his game and recruitment is just beginning to heat up, don't be surprised to see more high-major programs starting to show interest in Jones. With his shooting ability and high IQ, he is a prospect more and more programs will begin to show interest in as the high school season gets underway.
