Russell Jones stays in state
Winthrop gets another in state and Team SC pledge tonight with tough-nosed guard Russell Jones commitment to Rock Hill. Jones took the time to breakdown how staying in state and with his family factored into his decision.
“It was all about the family feel. I got a chance to play with my brother and play 45 minutes from home. With two seniors leaving I have a chance to play early for a winning program.
When asked how the commitment of Team SC forward Chase Claxton influenced his decision, Jones revealed that he actually committed first.
“ I committed on my visit but Chase announced it first. It's just a true brotherhood over here.”
Winthrop has to feel good about securing two in-state talents on during their first line of official visits. With Russell Jones and Chase Claxton committed, Winthrop and their verbal pledges are sure to continue making a run for one of the most sought-after guards in the Southeast.
“ Me, chase and Tre all talked about it. We’ve been playing with each other since like the 2nd grade. With Team SC we beat a lot of circuit teams and made a name for ourselves. We could do something special at Winthrop.
Winthrop was named one of my weekend winners earlier today with the commitment of Chase Claxton. Russell Jones furthers that thought as one of the Big South's best teams keeps their talent in state.
