Since our breakdown of the SEC’s signing period was published, Kentucky added five-star forward Jayden Quaintance and four-star guard Travis Perry to the mix.

Did anyone really think that the Wildcats would wind up with a ho-hum recruiting class? Not anyone reading HoopSeen. You’re far too smart for that. 

We all knew Calipari’s Cats had cards up their sleeves, and they pulled some out to vault their good two-man class up to a great four-man group with potential to add another piece or two. 

With the update, Kentucky has usurped Missouri as the No. 2 class in the country and the No. 1 class in the SEC. 

The recently-committed duo pairs well with the one they already had locked up. Perry is more of a pure point guard than Boogie Fland. Don’t get it wrong, Fland can fill that role, but he’s at his best as a bucket-getter. Perry can offset that by being more of an initiator and distributor. 

Quaintance’s addition gives Calipari more disruptive length around the basket. For better or worse, Cal has shown over the years that he wants to play with multiple bigs on the floor, and the Cyril-Quaintance combo will be as stout a frontline as there is. 

Even if Calipari strays from his old ways, and opts for a more modern, perimeter-oriented line up, having both of those guys at his disposal gives him frontcourt depth that most coaches dream about. 

There’s still potential for the rich to get even richer. Five-star wing Karter Knox is still on the board, and he listed Kentucky as a finalist. Wing is the only gap in this class for the Cats, Knox is as good a prospect at the position as there is in the class. Knox’s older brother Kevin starred for Kentucky before moving on to the NBA. 

Then, four-star wing Billy Richmond is also uncommitted as of now. Kentucky is considered one of the favorites to land the athletic defensive stopper. 

If Kentucky adds both, the conversation about the No. 1 class in 2024 will heat up. 

Duke is currently in the lead, and they have plenty of options on the table to round out their incomers as well.
