2023 Alabama Fall Preview: Team 2 Evaluations
We had a fantastic day of action on Sunday at the Alabama Fall Preview. During drills, gameplay, and other sessions, our coaches and staff were closely evaluating all the action.
Here’s what our coaches and staff had to say about Team 2:
RELATED: Top performers, Part I | Part II | Ten additional standouts
Austin Coner, 2025 CG, Pinson Valley: Coner was one of the top guards we had in the building on Sunday. Read what we had to say about him as one of our top performers.
Egan Daley, 2025 G, Greene County: Daley showed his athleticism early and often on Sunday. The 5-foot-9 guard from Greene County HS used that and his high motor to stand out on both ends of the floor.
Braden Duckworth, 2024 PF, Gardendale: Duckworth did a nice job showing off his offensive arsenal as a skilled big. The 6-foot-7 big man passed the ball well and made use of his mobility, converting some finishes off the roll and making shots out to the perimeter.
Jay Green, 2026 PG, Thompson: Green had a quality day at the office and landed on our standout list from the event.
DJ Hamlett, 2024 CG, Hillcrest: Hamlett, one of the top seniors in the state, made the most of his day and was one of our camp standouts.
Turner Hammond, 2026 G, Guntersville: Hammond won over his teammates pretty quickly at the end of the first game, as he converted a last-second three-pointer to lead his team to a victory. His shooting and basketball IQ were the portions he showed throughout the day.
Kohl Key, 2024 SG, Hartselle: Key wasted no time during 5-on-5 play showing the best part of his game: his shooting. The Hartselle guard is hard to stop when he’s rolling, and he made several shots throughout the day. Key’s shooting streaks can change the course of a game in a hurry.
Justin Nelson, 2025 G, Huffman: A strong jumbo guard, Nelson put together a solid day at the Fall Preview. The 5-foot-11 guard had no problems getting downhill and creating opportunities in the paint. He’ll be a guard to monitor during the season.
Jaisyion Payne, 2027 G, Florence: Payne is only a freshman but there’s already a lot to like. The strong lefty can make shots from distance with ease and he has no problem getting downhill and using his body. He could play some major minutes for 7A Florence this season.
Joshua Speer, 2026 G, Sylacauga: Speer embraces playing off two feet as much as anyone I’ve ever seen. The 5-foot-11 guard was always in control on the floor and his ability to play strong off two feet really made a difference for him around the rim. He made some tough finishes in the paint, especially for a young sophomore.
