ATLANTA, GA - Let’s just go ahead and start here: Elyjah Freeman is the biggest stock-riser here at the Best of the South. The 6-foot-6 guard from the Wellington Wolves has been a trending player on our platform all season long and it may all come to a head this week here at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Freeman torched the nets for 25 points in a win against the Atlanta All-Stars and did so in front of 50 or so college coaches. It was a game that made the guys with the scholarships pay attention. Freeman scored in a variety of ways and every way was impressive.

The journey to where he is now didn’t come easy but it kinda came fast. At the start of the calendar year he was inserted into the Wellington High School starting lineup after the point guard went down with an ACL injury.

Freeman played the role of the bring the ball up guy and shined in the postseason.

Enter the spring travel season and Freeman’s transferrable size at the guard position and skill set caught on quickly to the trained eye.

“(My recruitment) got way better since the Atlanta Jam and it is rising since,” Freeman said.

He followed it up in June with a good showing during the scholastic NCAA Live Period.

To date, Freeman said he has heard from Kesier University, Chattanooga, Cal State Fullerton, Dayton, Anderson University and Tennessee State University.

So, what are coaches seeing in the young riser?

“I feel like my energy that I bring and hitting shots is what they seem to like,” Freeman said. “Talking on defense, dunking, helping my teammates get open and doing well with whatever I’m doing.”

He’s doing a lot well and more college coaches are seeing it again and again. To be quite frank, even more need to see it this week in Atlanta.
