March to Macon: Let's get into Class A-DI
No 1 Seeds
Irwin County, Darlington
Swainsboro, Athens Christian
Social Circle, Woodville-Tompkins
Mount Vernon, Temple
First Round Game(s) to Watch
Prince Ave Christian at Mt. Pisgah: There are two first round games in A-DI that will reveal a lot in terms of how the final four will shake out. The first is this one because if Micah Tucker is playing for Pisgah, they’re an even more dangerous team than they allready were. He was the player of the year in the toughest region in the classification, but he’s been battling some injury issues.
Mt. Bethel at Oglethorpe County: This game is intriguing for the same reason as the last one. If Mo Diao is back and healthy for Mt. Bethel, it will significantly raise their ceiling. The 6-foot-8 forward can pose plenty of problems for opponents and could help lead the Eagles to Macon if available.
King’s RIdge at Social Circle: Both of these teams were preseason final four picks, Social Circle has been one of the better programs in the A grouping for years, and King’s Ridge has as well. The winner of this game will be the team we pick to advance out of this part of the bracket.
The Most Interesting Quadrant
The King’s Ridge and Social Circle matchup in the first round is the most interesting game that we’re guaranteed to get, so that part of the bracket immediately gets eyeballs from us.
The first round matchups are as follows:
#3 Pelham at #2 East Laurens
#4 Lamar County at #1 Woodville-Tompkins
#3 Trion at #2 Rabun County
#4 King’s Ridge at #1 Social Circle
Final Four Picks
Before the season, I predicted King’s Ridge, Mount Vernon, Social Circle and Mount Bethel.
There’s a legitimate chance that we can have a final four composed of teams from the same region. 6-A-DI was the toughest region in the classification, and four of the best teams from that region of doom have viable final four cases. For both accuracy and novelty, we’re going to pick that. To avoid redundancy, we’ll discuss the teams generally rather than individually.
The gauntlet of a region that these teams played in was more daunting than the statee playoffs for the most part. Sure, travel and some unfamiliar matchups may end up being the downfall for some of these picks, but playing each other in the 6-A-DI tournament prepared them well for the state playoffs. If one of the following doesn’t win this classification, we’ll be surprised.
Mt. Pisgah
Mt. Bethel
King’s Ridge
Mount Vernon
The 2022-23 A-DI Champions are…
The Mount Vernon Mustangs.
Someone from 6-A-DI is winning this thing, and Mount Vernon is heating up at the right time. The Mustangs are playing their best basketball of the season. If they can carry that momentum into the state tournament, they’ll be cutting nets at the end of it all.
With advantages in depth, size, athleticism and physicality, A-DI doesn’t have many teams that can slow this team down when it’s playing as well as it is.
