Benson stays in state as South Carolina gets the nod
Javon Benson's journey has been well documented by our staff as the Ridge View forward went from once unknown to one of the hottest names in the south. Today, Benson ended this chapter of his story as he gave a verbal pledge to the University of South Carolina.
"I chose South Carolina because it's home. Its a great situation for me. He's(Frank Martin) really kept it real with me. He's a good recruiter but he wasn't really trying to sell me anything. He wouldn't call me every single second after he offered me. We had the one meeting during my official visit and I just felt welcomed. He told me that he can see me playing in the SEC. He just let me know that I'll get a degree but he wouldn't guarantee playing time. For me to hear that he didn't sell me with anything, that was respect. Being an in-state kid, I'm able to carry over the same fan base from high school and middle school and even grow it more. Me playing in-state is going to be a good thing for me."
This marks the second commit for the Gamecocks as they snatched another forward this Fall from A.C Flora forward Patrick Iriel.
"Me and Patrick are cool. We did what was best for us. In college, it'll be a different type of lifestyle for each of us but I think we will be pretty fine together."
