Trip Day says yes to North Florida
It didn't take too long for 2017 Phenix City (AL) Glenwood Academy power forward Trip Day to realize where he wanted and needed to be. Shortly after receiving a scholarship offer from North Florida, the senior made his verbal pledge to the Ospreys.
"North Florida has great coaches. They are real genuine people," Day told HoopSeen.com. "I knew I wanted that as soon as I met them. There are great people all around."
The winning tradition that head coach Matt Driscoll and his staff have created in recent years was also impressive to Day, who has been successful in the AISA division in Alabama.
"It's a winning program. It's all about basketball at the University of North Florida and becoming better people, too. Coach Driscoll just talked so much about how it's a family and the players and coaches love each other. I want to feel like a family where I go."
Day, a skilled 6-foot-8 power forward, recently was named Region Tournament Most Valuable Player. He is known for his high motor and upbeat demeanor. He impressed last year at the Alabama Elite Preview with his motor and being all over the place. With the ability to step out and hit shots from the perimeter, Day should be a valuable asset to North Florida.
Day also had received interest and offer from Navy, Western Carolina, Presbyterian, and Kennesaw State, among other schools.
