3@3: The best teams in Cobb, Dekalb, Gwinnett

Welcome to the 2015-2016 season in the state of Georgia. The March to Macon has officially begun and we couldn’t be more excited to get things rolling here in the Peach State. Everyday for the next couple of weeks we will tackle three questions at 3 p.m. about the upcoming season.

Justin Young and Carter Wilson will jump right into the conversation about the best teams, best players, best games and much more as the opening tip looms around the corner.

The top team in Cobb County this year is…?

Pebblebrook. For me, this was a toss up between Pebblebrook and Wheeler. However, Pebblebrook’s guard play is the trump card. Jared Harper has been playing at as high a level as any guard in the state, and he will be joined in the backcourt by Collin Sexton and JJ Smith. That three headed attack will not only be very fun to watch, but will be an absolute scoring machine. Not too many teams can match up with the Pebblebrook guards. - Carter Wilson

Wheeler. I still have to go with the Holt Road school in Marietta. Yes, Pebblebrook is right there but that’s a lot of turnover to work through. The Wildcats did graduate the nation’s top prospect in Jaylen Brown but they’ve replaced his size with Romello White, a Georgia Tech commitment. Outbound Tennessee wing Shembari Phillips was replaced by North Florida bound forward Al-Wajid Aminu, too.  White and Aminu join an experienced squad with Darius Perry, Cam Jordan and Makhai Eastmond. All three started on last year’s AAAAAA state championship squad. - Justin Young

The top team in Gwinnett County this year is…?

Shiloh. The Generals seemingly have unlimited depth. They have as many as seven players who could be Division I prospects, led by Georgia Tech commit Josh Okogie. They have a diverse group of players that fit head coach Kim Rivers’ aggressive style of play. They are among the most talented teams in the state and could be the preseason favorites in AAAAAA. - CW

I can’t argue with you here. Shiloh is the easy pick. I think there are a number of schools in Gwinnett County that could make a run for their respective classification Elite Eight. But, yes, Shiloh is the top dog for all of the reasons you’ve stated. I’m interested in seeing how Norcross uses it’s youth. There’s always an experienced leader that sets the tone, too. I’m curious to see who that player is this season. - JY

The top team in Dekalb County this year is…?

Miller Grove. Guards, guards, and more guards. This is the deepest backcourt in the state and they are led by an elite point guard in Alterique Gilbert. I’m very interested to see how head coach Sharman White uses all of this backcourt talent and who steps up to play in the frontcourt. However, with the guards that the Wolverines have, they could end up being a matchup disaster for a lot of teams. - CW

As is the case every season, I can’t wait to see the county in action. It is jam-packed as usual with talent. Miller Grove is a default answer every year. And they should be but I think Greenforest Christian takes the cake. We sometimes forget about them as a Dekalb County school because they play in Class A Private. This year’s squad is big, experienced at the right positions and have balance from positions one to five. - JY
