Alabama Fall Preview Team 5 Evaluations
Our Alabama Fall Preview camp is in the books and our staff of evaluators and coaches have gone through their notes of every player in the camp. Every. Single. One. Today we look closer at Team 5 from camp.
Michael Jones, 2022 G, Montevallo: Jones exhibited a “microwave” like tendency with his knack to get hot instantly. He capitalized on shots from deep beyond the perimeter without hesitation. In one half during the 5-on-5 games, he strung together a trio of three-pointers in a row within a matter of minutes. He also demonstrated a thorough understanding of making the correct reads in pick in roll scenarios.
Kedarion Rabb, 2021 SF, JU Blacksher: Rabb made a notable effort to display the versatility in his game. At 6-foot-5, his athleticism gave him an advantage in snagging countless rebounds off the glass. He was superb in the 2-man game, making plays in the pick-and-roll scenario look effortless. When it came to his shooting, he was sure to prove that he could connect on spot-up jumpers.
K.J. Melson, 2021 CG, Danville: KJ proved to a be a true competitor. We liked how tough he played on both ends of the floor. He was smart in picking his spots and knowing where to be at the right moment. He never forced the issue but was able to show he could make shots and also deliver the right pass to cutting teammates.
Jack Ronilo, 2023 SG, Oak Mountain: Despite being one of the youngest players in attendance, Ronilo was able to stand out with his high IQ and fundamental skill-set. He used his body and knowledge of angles to his advantage, too. He was ale to knock down open shots and make the right play.
James Shores, 2021 SF/PF, John Paul II: James showed that he could play the game the correct way. His IQ was a key characteristic we noted throughout the 5-on-5 games. He’s an intriguing player to keep an eye on with his 6-foot-7 build. In regards to his shooting, once he gets hot, he can knock down multiple shots in a row. He should be pursued by non-Division I schools this high school season.
Jordan Eggleston, 2021 F, Calera: The junior forward earned his living in transition opportunites. His finishing around the rim against opposing defenders was impressive. He showed that he could convert using either hand on both sides of the basket. He used his size advantage to be productive throughout the day.
Trent Thomas, 2023 SF/PF, Cottage Hill Academy: The 2023 forward displayed signs of a promising prospect. At 6-foot-5, he’s got a strong frame which aided him well. He was confident in the low-post and finished through contact. In transition, he sprinted the floor on each possession. Thomas made sure to accumulate his fair share of rebounds also. The mechanics on his jumpshot were fluid, and he showed a precise shooting touch. Defensively, he excelled on help-side rotations. While it is still early, you have to pencil him in as one of the freshmen to watch for this season.
Jayman Pettway was electric on the day and started his story. See what we had to say about him in our story starters article here.
