Potential June recruiting risers in Georgia's 2024 class
June is the new April. Transfer portal recruiting has taken center stage in the early spring. After the portal closes in May, the attention turns to high school recruiting in full. Thus, the June live periods have become some of the most important weekends for recruiting.
Georgia has two June high school team camps at Lakepoint that have become the weekends that see players’ recruitments start to take form in a significant way. It’s when players can really level up.
There are several players in the state that evaluators can point to as candidates for a breakout during those weekends, and these are some of the many in the 2024 class.
After a great high school season, Jayce Nathaniel has made an impression on a more national level with Team Curry. His efforts this spring have landed him a fresh batch of offers from some mid-major programs, but June could portend better things for him. He’s a player we’re monitoring for a bump up in terms of recruitment. He’s a two-way combo forward who does a lot to impact winning. Nathaniel is a no-brainer for high major coaches to watch during June evaluation periods. He could be one of the Peach State’s most popular names this month.
Brown was one of the catalysts behind this idea. He’s someone that has a chance to level up with Kell at the GBCA camps. Brown has a host of mid major offers and interest. His athleticism is his calling card, and it could help him add to his list of offers. For the last couple of years, there’s been a player that comes into June with a solid list of offers but ends the Georgia team camps with his phone buzzing like crazy, and Brown is certainly a candidate for that distinction this year.
Hill is one of the most intriguing prospects in Georgia’s 2024 class. He’s someone who got some recruiting attention last June and has picked up some high-major offers recently, but going into his senior year, what Hill does this summer could bolster those offers or generate new ones. Right now, it’s his length, energy, defense, and upside that will draw coaches to him. At a very mobile and very long 6-foot-10, Hill can be tasked with guarding multiple positions, and he has offensive upside. He has a chance to have a big month.
Trey Shephard entered the spring as one of the more undervalued prospects in the state, but with the Georgia Canes, it seems like he’s been building some good momentum going into the summer. It was at HoopSeen’s fall preview camp that he made a significant impression on Garrett Tucker and I. He continued to show plenty of flashes throughout the high school season with Hillgrove as well. His positional size mixed with his ability to generate offense is something that coaches at the next level will value. He handles well and has proven on multiple platforms that he can knock down shots from all over the floor. While still underrated, I think June will change that quickly.
Micah Smith has been playing some great basketball as of late, the best of his career. He helped lead Sandy Creek to a state championship, and he’s played well for AE5 as well. He brings so much versatility to the floor with good size, athleticism, and plenty of skill. He’s a forward that can stretch the floor with his shot, play above the rim, and create off the bounce. He was injured last June, but he’s had plenty of schools interested in him since he was a freshman. This summer, he’s looking like he can cash in on his recent play and have his recruitment take shape in a way that it couldn’t a year ago.
