Towns County at Greenforest: Greenforest is the story of this tournament. They’re heavy favorites, so when they take the floor, it’ll be a game to follow. 

The Most Interesting Quadrant

Chaos is the best this time of year, and nothing would be more chaotic than seeing Greenforest get bounced early in the A-DII tournament. We’re not expecting that by any means, but it would be the biggest development of the tournament, and that possibility makes the top right part of the bracket one to keep tabs on. 

The first round matchups are as follows: 

#3 Georgia Military at #2 Manchester

#4 Towns County at #1 Greenforest

#3 McIntosh County at #2 Hawkinsville

#4 Atkinson County at #1 Calhoun County

Final Four Picks

Before the season, I predicted Greenforest, Portal, Charlton County and Christian Heritage.

Finally, a preseason final four is possible! Not only is it possible, the season played out in a manner that makes me believe that it’s the most likely outcome. 

Greenforest: This is a rare instance in which picking an individual team is a safer bet than picking the field. Greenforest is that good. They have size that nobody else in Georgia can replicate with the depth that Greenforest has. One 7-footer is tough enough to contend with, but two—give or take an inch or two—is flat-out different. 

Charlton County: Look for Charlton County to make it out of their group. They have one of the best shooters in Georgia in Jarvis Wright. The guy can light it up from the 3-point line, and Elyiss Williams is a force down low. This sophomore duo is going to be a problem in A-DII for years to come, and their ascent starts this tournament.

Portal: Portal is an easy pick to make the final four. The Panthers have only lost one game this season, and Elijah Coleman is one of the best players in the tournament. 

Christian Heritage: Jax Abernathy is one of the best players in A-DII. He’s a complete difference maker at this level and can be a dominating player who can lead Christian Heritage on a trip to Macon. If Greenforest didn’t exist, Christian Heritage would be the pick to win it all. 

The 2022-23 A-DII Champions are…

The Greenforest Eagles. 

I mean, come on, now. Any objective party is going to comfortably pick Greenforest to win it all. They just have too much talent, and they won it last year with a lot of the same players. Their two D1 7-footers are all that need to be mentioned. They have size that nobody at this level can contend with, and they have the guards to alleviate the entire focus from being placed on those two. 

No disrespect to anyone else out there, but we all know that Greenforest is favored.
