March to Macon: GHSA Championship History Premium Content

The GHSA playoffs are right around the corner. With the March to Macon about to begin, it’s a good time for a backward glance at the history books. There’s no better place to start than the beginning of it all.

The first year of GHSA basketball—or the first year that a champion was crowned—was in 1922, and the first-ever champion was Lanier High School. Their longest stretch of dominance came between 1925 and 1928 when they won four championships in a row.
