Player Spotlight with Denzel Aberdeen
Denzel Aberdeen created a ton of buzz around his name during the GBCA live event this past weekend. The 6-foot-4 guard out of Dr. Philips High School averaged 17.5 points on the weekend, helping his team to an undefeated record, including a big win over Georgia powerhouse, Milton High School.
Aberdeen opened a lot of eyes with his perimeter shooting. I personally watched him knock down four 3-pointers in one half and finish perfect from behind the arc in that same game. He had multiple games with 4+ 3PM. Not only can he really shoot it from deep range, but he can break defenders down off the dribble, too. His quickness allows for him to blow by defenders with ease and he can finish in a variety of ways once inside the paint.
He is currently hearing the most from Virginia Tech, Elon, Wofford, and Georgia State. However, after the weekend he had, a lot more coaches will be in the mix. He came into the event with offers from Jacksonville, FGCU, Louisiana Lafayette, FIU, and Stetson. He has since added offers from Illinois and Ole Miss. Aberdeen definitely did himself a lot of favors while finally being able to play in front of coaches for the first time since the pandemic began.
"It's a blessing to get an opportunity to play in front of coaches," he said. "On top of that, I get to come back and play with my high school guys."
As far as his goals for the remainder of the live period heading into July, he stated that he wants to play hard and prove that his SouthEast Elite team can play with anybody.
He does not currently have a timetable for when he would like to commit, but he does know what he is looking for in the school that he chooses.
"Having a good relationship with the coaching staff is important," said Aberdeen. "Also going somewhere with a good education and knowing coaches believe in me to help me get to the next level."
