2022 Best of the South Florida Standouts

ATLANTA, GA - You know the talent pool is different in the Sunshine State. It must be the fresh spring water, the OG Gatorade recipe, or something because Florida always shows high-level athletes across the board. At Best of the South several guys came up to Atlanta and announced themselves in prominent ways. Here are some of the many that showed out at the Georgia World Congress Center

This 2023 guard was an absolute terror throughout the entire event. Standing at 6’0”, we watched him have a 27-point performance with six threes, followed by another 20+ point game on the final day of the BOTS. He is a lights-out scorer, runs the floor extremely hard, and plays excellent on-ball defense at the guard spot. The energy wasn’t ever in question from the opening tip to the final buzzer. - Jerome Reed

One of the few 2026 kids I was able to see, the young Leo Soler was solid the entire weekend. In a win on day one, Soler scored 17 points and three long balls & had a great pace to his game for his age group. He never looked forced or rushed. His court vision and passing ability from the wing reflected that. Soler already has a varsity-level size at 6’3”. As his IQ in the game continues to grow, look out for him as the years come. - Jerome Reed

We’ve written about Barr a lot over the years here at HoopSeen, and the attention he’s gotten has been much deserved. He always performs, and on one of the biggest stages in independent basketball, he did it again. I’m telling you, it’s like clockwork with this guy. I can count on Barr to show up and show out on a week-by-week basis. The 6-foot-4 guard once again put up big, consistent numbers by averaging north of 20 points per game over a six-game week. It’s not like he’s just out there chucking and taking all of the shots, Barr is more than willing to share the ball and has exceptional vision. He’s the kind of guy that just figures out how to leave his mark on a game in one way or another. - Josh Tec

Before this weekend, I hadn’t gotten to see much of Florida Pro all year. The great Brianna Patton handled the Sunshine State so well that I just let her do her thing. At Best of the South, I made it a point to catch them because they always have dudes. No matter what, I know Florida Pro has something for me. Stone Bureau proved to be one of the aforementioned dudes. He’s a tough, tough 2024 point guard that does it all. He scores the ball well, consistently from multiple levels and is especially effective when he’s attacking the basket. Bureau impressed me most with his passing and decision making though. More often than not, he made smart reads out of ball screens and on drives to the basket. He consistently found shooters or made nifty passes to get his bigs clean looks at the basket. - Josh Tec

The 6-foot-7 center from South Florida showed flashes of dominance for Team Wright in their championship run. With his physical frame and playstyle, there weren’t many matchups that could stop him when he got the ball down in the paint. While the big fella couldn’t be matched in the paint or on the boards, he proved that his game isn’t just limited to being an enforcer down low. He showed off some range and confidence from the 3-point line and made some nice plays with the ball in his hands too. - Josh Tec
