2024 guard Ty Davis recaps Oregon visit and talks new interest
2024 Mountain Brook (AL) point guard Ty Davis put together a strong spring with Pro One. After being a standout at Bama Jam back in April, the junior was recognized as one of the top players on the Under Armour Rise Circuit.
Davis, a cerebral 6-foot-5 guard, impressed this spring with his ball skills, passing ability, and scoring versatility. He showed he can fill it up from behind the arc with ease, but his best personal attribute may be his passing ability. Davis is a precise passer with both hands and excels at setting up his teammates for scoring opportunities.
“I feel like I’ve played very well this spring,” Davis told HoopSeen.com. “With teams crowding the three-point line, I’ve been able to display my finishing abilities, along with my passing, on-ball defense, and rebounding.”
As expected, many new schools have started to show interest in the Mountain Brook High School product. In fact, he recently reeled in high-major offers from Oregon and Northwestern. Last weekend, Davis and his family made an official visit to the Ducks.
“The visit to Oregon was awesome. Coach [Dana] Altman and the entire staff did an unbelievable job showing me everything they had to offer along with helping it feel like a second home. I really like how the coaches have prioritized me so quickly. They’ve done a great job in building a relationship with my whole family and showing their interest in me. They are comparing me to Casey Benson and some of the other guards they have had in the past who have helped make a run in the tournament.”
Northwestern has also quickly prioritized Davis. They see him as a seamless fit for their program.
“The Northwestern coaches have been great. Coach [Chris] Collins and Coach Battle have prioritized me as well. Obviously the Big 10 is a great conference and they see me fitting in very well. They’re going to be losing a lot of their starting guards after this year, which means they are prioritizing guards in my class. I also really like how high of an academic school they are.”
Sporting a 4.0 GPA, it’s no surprise that high-academic schools like Harvard, Notre Dame, and Rice are among the schools involved in his recruitment.
“Samford, Lipscomb, Indiana State, Tennessee Tech, Rice, High Point, Furman, Belmont, Murray State, Loyola-Chicago, Richmond, Marshall, Northwestern, and Oregon have all offered right now,” Davis said.
Virginia Tech, Iowa, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Creighton, Florida Atlantic, Harvard, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt are some of the schools showing interest to this point.
Davis will compete in the UA NEXT Future 60 Training Camp in June.
