2024 Tennessee Jam: Saturday Notebook

The inaugural Tennessee Jam tipped off on Saturday at the beautiful Memphis Sports & Events Center, and, as you would expect from a first-year event, there’s plenty to talk about.

We’re happy to bring the HoopSeen platform to west Tennessee, so without further adieu, how about some Tennessee flavor to kick things off. Here are some of the best things we saw from Saturday’s action…

SHOCKERS CONTINUE THEIR HOT SPRING

The Tennessee Jam is the third HoopSeen event for Nashville-based Shockers Basketball this year, and, after Saturday, it looks like they’re on pace for another quality weekend. Did I mention that the Shockers are a blistering 9-1 with us entering Tennessee Jam?

They rolled to two wins on Saturday behind some stellar play from Hart Weatherford. The skilled lefty scored 21 points and 22 points respectively in the two games, using his savvy game to put himself in quality scoring positions. He made several crafty finishes with his left hand to throw defenses off throughout the day.

Weatherford joins a group of standouts from the team that includes Chris Johnson and Jake Harney. The total team effort squad has been one of the most successful teams on our platform thus far.

A LITTLE LOVE FOR THE HOME TEAM

The hometown program Team Thad represented well on day one in Memphis, as multiple age groups had nice showings to start the event. We were able to catch a little bit of action from the 17U, 16U and 15U EYBL squads and here are some quick thoughts…

2025 guard Jasper Johnson showed why he’s one of the most highly coveted guards in the country. The 6-foot-4 guard is well-rounded on both ends of the floor and can do a multitude of things, whether it’s shoot, score, defend, or facilitate for teammates. He did a little bit of it all on Saturday.

Jamarion Fleming, a Mississippi big man, served as a nice complement on the inside for Johnson. The lengthy big man altered shots around the rim with his length and made some loud plays above the rim, too. With his length, mobility, and skill, Fleming will be a high priority for many Power 5 programs this spring.

One of my favorite players I saw on Saturday was 2026 guard Tarris Bouie, who suited up with the 16U squad. Hailing from the state of North Carolina, Bouie is a straight bucket-getter. He can fill it up with ease from beyond the arch with his shooting ability. In fact, he makes everything look easy on the floor.

Bouie, a 6-foot-6 guard, put up some impressive scoring numbers with Charlotte (NC) J.L. Chambers High School. It’s only a matter of time before the national pundits come around and include him in national top 100 lists — he’s that kinda good. Wake Forest extended a scholarship offer a few weeks ago and he’s bound to land more as the travel season gets going.

On the 15U front, Jaharri Miller had a loud opening game, making five three-pointers and scoring 31 points to help lead his team to a blowout victory. He followed that up with a 23-point performance in the afternoon session, too.

HELLO, MY NAME IS...

The best part about new events is the opportunity for new faces to shine. In a basketball-centric city like Memphis, there’s no shortage of talent. Just ask a guy like Kaleb Jeffries.

Jeffries, a high-octane guard, wasted no time shining for P7 Elite to start their day. He mixed up his scoring package throughout the day, scoring from all three levels. The Houston (TN) guard kept his foot on the pedal throughout the day, causing headaches for opposing defenses. Jeffries excelled with the ball in his hands and proved he was one of the better guards in attendance.

In his opening game of the day, the 6-foot-1 combo guard made four three-pointers en route to 23 points to lead the way. He followed that up with 18 points again in the afternoon game.

OTHER STANDOUTS:

17U: Jaybyon Snipe scored 19 points for SRU Elite in a win this afternoon.

17U: Bryson Johnson rattled in 19 points for TNBC Elite in their first game of the day.

16U: Yon Kinzer scored a game-high 21 points to lead THE MVMNT-Price to a one-point win over SRU Elite.

15U: Kylan Higgenbottom (23 points) and Blake Price (16 points) led Unseen Elite to a victory against RCE Elite.
