West Tennessee February report from Andre Whitehead
The weather outside was frightful but we managed to sludge our way through January. Let's see what went down in the Volunteer State this past month.
HEADLINES
Cooper Haynes (Briarcrest) is putting the final touches on an epic senior season. The Belmont signee became a Mr. Basketball finalist and found time to do some damage in January including a 28-point game against Pace Academy from Georgia and a slick 26 against rival CBHS.
Ayden Melton (Camden Central) has been dropping some stupid numbers in these colder months including a 46-point romp against Waverly Central and a 36-point piece against Riverside.
Taquez Butler (Douglass) is a name everyone should know and if you dont..learn it. The junior guard has his team sitting atop the state rankings with an undefeated record and he will now become a staple in Red Devils history as he moves past the 1,000-point mark for his career.
How we love the young up-and-coming player as he ingratiates himself in the basketball culture of the city. Justin Frison (Memphis East) is special. The freshman sensation plays mentally above his age and has been a staple for the Mustangs this season. How about a 28-point effort against state power Briarcrest to prove our point.
SCORING EXPLOITS
Jordan Allen (Hillcrest) has been lighting up scoreboards all over the Memphis area this season. January was no exception as the Mr. Basketball finalist dropped game of 50 against Oakhaven, 43 against Whitehaven, 40 against MSE-Winchester, 38 against City University and 36 against Memphis Overton.
A.J. Mormon (Scared Heart) has been a mainstay on this report since the season began. The senior guard had a very good month in January scoring 33 points against Kirby, adding a 31 spot on TCA and also found time for a 26-point effort against USJ.
Ayden Shaw (Jackson Christian) is making his name one of those you cannot help but utter when talking about the best players in the Jackson area. Shaw was selected as a Mr. Basketball finalist after his stellar January which included a 30-point outburst against Sacred Heart and a 27-point effort against Cornersville.
K.J. Tenner (Cordova) has been making noise for four seasons in Memphis. The Drake signee was recently selected as a Mr. Basketball finalist and found some time in his busy schedule to drop a 30 bomb on Southwind.
Continue to keep a big eye on Keeper Jackson (CBHS) as he navigates through his sophomore campaign. The long guard has been making a great deal of noise this season with his play including this 26-point effort against St. Benedict.

What an honor it is to place your name into your school all-time scoring list but even better doing it with a teammate. Kaleb Williams (TCA) and Brayden Waller (TCA) are now on the list as they skid past the 1,000-point mark for their careers.
