2024 wing Christian Alston continues to trend upward
It’s been a busy season for the Bartlett (TN) basketball program. In addition to playing an always-tough Memphis area schedule, the Panthers have played a national schedule this year, including matchups against Duncanville (TX), Combine Academy (NC), and St. Rita (IL).
Bartlett has proven they are not only one of the best teams in Tennessee but also one of the most talented teams in the Southeast. One of the many reasons behind their success is because of 2024 wing Christian Alston.
Alston, a 6-foot-6 wing, impressed us early in the season during the Lighthouse Classic. With his length, shooting ability, and defensive prowess, the junior fits the mold of a prototypical 3&D wing that more and more basketball minds are prioritizing.
“I would say that my straight line drives and my catch-and-shoot ability are the strongest parts of my game right now,” Alston told HoopSeen.com. “And using my length to be a great defender.”
Alston showcased his defensive ability at the Lighthouse Classic against Ole Miss signee Josh Hubbard. He contained the high-scoring Hubbard and ultimately clinched a victory for his Bartlett team.
Bartlett has cruised to a 10-1 record in district play and 22-8 overall. Alston likes where things are going as the state playoffs are getting ready to unfold.
“I feel like we’re getting better every day and working towards being the best we can. I like where we are as a team.”
Last week, Alston was named the 4A District 15 Player of the Week by the Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee after averaging 20 points over the course of four games.
It’s obvious opposing high school coaches are recognizing Alston’s talent. However, he may just be getting started. The junior hasn’t been playing organized basketball very long, but that hasn’t stopped college coaches from jumping into the picture early.
“I have offers from Mississippi State, Arkansas State, East Tennessee State, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff,” he explained.
Alston has surfed under the radar to this point for the majority of folks that put together national rankings. Nevertheless, I feel like HoopSeen.com is ahead of the curve, as we have him slotted just outside the top 100 at No. 109 in our 2024 national rankings.
If he continues his upward trend I can easily see him as a priority prospect for several teams in the Big 12 and SEC.
