HoopSeen Stockriser: MJ Williams
5-foot-10 senior guard MJ Williams from Farmville (NC) Central High School is the next guy from the legendary program that will suit up for a Division One college basketball next season. It's a long list. Head Coach Larry Williford has built a dynasty in eastern North Carolina with five state championships over the past nine seasons.
After showing out over Christmas break at The John Wall Holiday Invitational, Williams picked up an offer from Eastern Kentucky University, his second Division One offer, including Navy. He also picked up an offer from Lees-McRae.
Last summer at our Grassroots Finale, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Williams was named to our Top Performers team.
"Williams is a state championship winning guard from Farmville Central High School in eastern North Carolina. Williams is a prospect that should be attracting division three and division two recruiting interest. He handles the ball, he understands where the next pass needs to be and he can take over a game with his scoring ability. The lefty was a consistent shooter from the outside while also being able to finish at the rim at a consistent level. He is a little undersized, but makes up for it with his high-level motor and his ability to win games. - Justin Byerly
What can MJ bring to a college program when he arrives on campus?
"Next year I believe I could be a guy that’s brings energy, and winning to a team. I believe that my four years at Farmville proves I can win games and that will carry on to the next level. I also will be a threat from deep as well as getting my teammates good looks and putting them in situations to score. Lastly, I will be a pesky defender that will get pressure on the PG early," Williams said.
Back in 2022, we wrote about Williams at our prestigious Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions,
"Williams hails from one of the top programs in North Carolina, regardless of classification. Farmville Central High School. Title after title. College prospect after college prospect. Larry Williford's program is what is right with public school basketball in North Carolina. Introducing MJ Williams. I saw him go against Team CP3 16's for Warriors Life Elite. A program based out of Greenville, North Carolina. If you have followed North Carolina grassroots hoops for a while, you know that Eastern North Carolina has some guys. Williams, a class of 2025 prospect is the next guy out of the area. In the first half against Team CP3, Williams, a 5-foot-10 guard scored 14 points and knocked down four shots from beyond the three-point line. He can get into the lane at will, has a good handle and is a shooter. A very consistent shooter."
