NCISAA Live Period Day One Notebook from Justin Byerly
Greensboro, North Carolina - The NCISAA June Live period is underway at Greensboro Day School and college coaches are taking it in to find their next spots on their ever-changing rosters. It was a full day of basketball at the home of one of the most storied programs in North Carolina. With a good amount of game seen today, let's take a look at who stood out.
Edwards Shines When It Matters Most
Kobe Edwards, one of my favorite point guards in the 2026 class came up with a huge game against The Burlington School to end the night. In front of a good amount of coaches including Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats, Edwards had one of the best showings that I have seen him had. The silky smooth point guard with explosiveness finished with 16 points and I would imagine close to eight assists. He wanted the ball in his hands and he demanded the defense come after him. Once Edwards got into the lane, three things were going to happen. He is going to the free-throw line, scoring or making the assist. I think Edwards picked up some major interest tonight with the college coaches in attendance and they will be back for more tomorrow.
Greensboro Day Just Reloads
Fresh off a NCISAA 3-A state championship, Greensboro Day looked like they will not skip a beat going into the 2025-2026 season. One guy in particular that we are going to hear a lot about over the next few years will be Grant Duggins. The 6-foot-9 freshman was one of the best players I saw over the first day. Duggins has the size, an evolving skillset and he understands the Greensboro Day way of playing and what Fred Johnson demands of his team.
Another prospect that impressed was 2028 guard Micah Gunter. The Virginia native stands at 6-foot-3 and is a playmaking guard. He poured in 13 points in Greensboro Day's win over Burlington Christian.
Christ School Looks The Part, Again
Josh Coley has some new names and faces this time around. It looks like there will be much of the same in terms of banner placement in their gym. Things started out a little slow for the Arden based squad that have won the last three NCISAA 4-A state titles but once they settled in, it was no looking back. The Greenies that stood out in their win over Caldwell Academy, 62-46.
Tyler Jones has been on my Top Performers list each time he played with Team Thad on our HoopSeen stage and he will be on the list again today with his performance. He is an explosive guard that can attack with the best of them. One of his best attributes though is his defensive ability. He can sit in and not many guys can get around him. He finished with a team-high 15 points on an always balanced squad for Christ School.
Another addition for Christ School is Micah Goodlow from Atlanta, Georgia. The 6-foot guard has that ATL swagger to his game, something that brings back some memories of former Christ School guard Kenan Wilkins. He can score off the dribble and make shots from outside. He finished with 9 points.
Thomas Vickery, who is probably as hot as any prospect in the country right now, offer wise finished with 9 points as well in the win. The 6-foot-5 prospect is an athletic, smart and skilled wing that can shoot it, can take guys off the dribble from the perimeter and can score. His latest offer is Mississippi State and after today, it makes sense.
