The Grassroots Finale 17U Top Performers Part I

Virginia Beach, VA - Another travel season is in the books and we finished the season off with a bang at our Grassroots Finale in Virginia Beach. Let’s take a deep dive into our first set of top performers in the 17-and-under division.

Jaylen Wynn, Team Loaded 757 - The 6 foot five wing prospect had a super weekend with Team loaded 757. With his size and his quick first step, Wynn is able to blow by defenders and get to the rim with these. What really impressed me was his tenacious defending ability and being able to use him to guard multiple positions. With his length, athleticism and scoring ability, Wynn looks like a low major Division I prospect and should be picking up offers from that level or Division II programs over the next couple of weeks. - Justin Byerly

JJ Massaquoi - District Basketball Club - The big bodied forward/wing/guard is a kid-match problem on the floor. He can step out and shoot it from beyond the three-point line fairly consistently and he can get baskets in the paint and around the perimeter. He has had a good amount of college coaches lining the baseline to watch him throughout the weekend here at The Grassroots Finale. - Justin Byerly

Toney Collins, Wellington Wolves Select - Collins has recently emerged on the scene and has really impressed me and the rest of our staff over the past two weekends. The unsigned senior has a nice size and frame, allowing him to finish through contact and earn consistent trips to the free throw line. - Mekhi McKinney

Da’monic Gittens, House We Built - The perfect complement to Luke Johnson’s game is Gittens, with his elite athleticism and high-flying play style. He makes nice straight-line drives to the rim, where he gets to two feet and finishes above or through defenders. Gittens' activity on defense led to multiple deflections, resulting in dunks or easy points for teammates in transition. - Mekhi McKinney

Jalen Deloatch, Team Richmond HGSL - Deloatch was the perfect duo for his backcourt running mate, Jordan Clayton. He’s a knockdown shooter who makes strong downhill drives while playing with a level of finesse that keeps defenders on their toes. - Mekhi McKinney
