The Carolina Corner with @JustinByerly
The Carolina Corner is back again. The season is underway in the Carolinas and we are excited to bring you the happenings around the state.
Evans Visiting Duke Tonight
2024 prospect Isaiah Evans who is coming off of a MVP award after his play at The Leroy Holden Classic for North Mecklenburg as he led them to the title will be on Duke's campus tonight for their ACC-Big 10 tussle with Ohio State. Duke has not yet offered but the interest seems to be coming in. Evans, a 6-foot-7 guard/small forward is one of the top prospects in the country and has numerous high-major offers on the table. He has helped North Mecklenburg get off to a 4-0 start to the season. Evans is currently ranked 8th in the state but that ranking is going to change when the next wave of updated rankings roll out. In a win over Harding High School last night, Evans totaled 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
Chambers Takes One From Myers Park
Myers Park High School, considered by many to be favorites in the 4-A division of the NCHSAA dropped their second game of the season to JL Chambers High School of Charlotte, 71-60. Leading Chambers in the win were Nick Dorn with 20 points, Maurio Hanson with 12 points and Jordan Patton with 11 points. The win for Chambers High School sends them to 2-2 overall with wins over Myers Park, Northside Christian and losses to Olympic HS and Winston-Salem Christian.
Myers Park was led by Sir Mohammed with 15 points, Bishop Boswell with 14 points and Wofford signee Elijah Strong with 11 points in the loss. This should be a wake-up call for Myers Park with the talent they have on the roster and the high-expectations.
Mohammed to Visit Villanova This Weekend
2024 prospect Sir Mohammed of Myers Park High School will take a visit to Villanova this weekend, unofficially. The Wildcats offered Mohammed in late July of this year and have been recruiting him heavily. Mohammed is the son of former Kentucky Wildcat Nazr Mohammed who spent 10-plus years in the NBA. Mohammed is an interesting prospect at 6-foot-6 with ball-handling abilities and with the pedigree that he has with his dad, you can see why college programs are all about him.
Early Gatorade Player of the Year Winner?
Zion Walker. Zion Walker. Zion Walker. This guy has been killing it. Check out these stats over the last four games for The Burlington School. 41 points, 33 points, 19 points and 31 points. Walker is a guy that should start to his recruitment really pick up and he currently holds offers from Hampton, North Carolina A&T, Western Carolina, and a host of others. As our guy down in Raleigh, Rod Bridgers talked about on Twitter, he is on the same page with the play of Zion Walker as of late.
It’s super early in the season but @zionnwalkerr is emerging as a Gatorade POY candidate.
