#Gibbons Top 16U performers, part 3
It became quite evident during the 2015 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions that the talent at the 16 and under level was off the charts. Our staff will look back at the top performers from the age group all week here on HoopSeen.com. Here’s our third round of player spotlights.
Dexter Dennis, WF, Elfrid Payton Elite, 2017: Dennis was one of the pleasant surprises this weekend. The 6-foot-5 wing has only been playing organized basketball for a few years, but he was one of the top prospects on the Louisiana-based squad. Dennis is a bouncy wing that is not afraid to dunk on someone, whether it be in transition or in the half-court. Right now, the majority of his game is putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim, but he has a ton of upside at this early point in his career. - GT
Trey Hollowell, SG, Team Corey Brewer, 2017 (pictured above): Point producer. That’s what the Kentucky is and he’s very good in that regard. It was fun watching the 6-foot-2 backcourt prospect in action again. He’s a tough guard on the wing because of his three-point range. Defensively, his high-motor makes him an even more attractive prospect. Never one to back down to competition, Hollowell reminded us of why we were such big fans of his skill package. - JY
Chol Marial, C, Florida Elite, 2019: It was easy to notice this young big man when he walked in the gym at 7'2". But what's more amazing is you realize he's still just in 8th grade and was competing at the 16U division. I expected a raw prospect from the beginning, but Marial made plays that kids his size and age don't typically make. Keep the South Sudan native on your radar going forward. - KK
Chuma Okeke, F, Georgia Stars, 2017: Okeke is one of the most interesting prospects that we have in the 2017 class. Okeke has a great combination of size and skill and can score the ball at a high rate. His game is very smooth and he plays at his own pace. This weekend at Gibbons, he proved that he is a very versatile player that can do everything on a basketball floor: scores from all levels, rebounds, handles, and controls tempo. - CW
Samir Stewart, PG, Team M.O.A.M., 2018: The 5-foot-10 guard was a tank this weekend for this M.O.A.M. team. He's a 2018 prospect that was playing up with 16U and still filling up stat sheets. Every time I looked up, Stewart was making a play. In terms of scorers in the 16U division, Stewart was definitely near the top in terms of ability to produce at all levels on the floor. - KK
Tre Swilling, CG, New Orleans Elite, 2017: It’s hard to find a good leader on and off the court like Swilling. He is engaged in the game, whether he is playing or on the bench. He was one of the best vocal leaders in the 16U this weekend. The 6-foot-2 combo guard can control the game. He plays with great pace and poise, and he also is a good shooter from the perimeter. Not many people know about Swilling or his NO Elite team yet, but that should change soon. - GT
