The Florida Focus with Michael Costeines

We are inching closer to the start of the scholastic season here in South Florida. Per FHSAA, the first day schools are allowed to practice is Oct. 31. Preseason classics follow on Nov.14 with the first regular season playing date on Nov. 21.

Today, I would like to highlight programs to watch that did not win a state championship last season.

Let's go in focus:

Mater Lakes Academy (Last season: 22-8)

Final Result: Lost to Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian in Class 4A regional finals.

Michael Costeines is a regional scout based in South Florida. He has been covering both men's and women's basketball in the area since November 2018. Players he has scouted include Scottie Barnes, Zaire Wade, Vernon Carey Jr., Jordana Codio, and Ta'Niya Latson. Michael has previously worked for Prep Hoops and NBC Sports in Stamford, Connecticut. He is originally from Madison (CT) and received his bachelors degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
