2022 HoopSeen Association All 17U team 2nd team
In a reflection on the 2022 travel season, we’ve been going over our All-HSA teams starting with 15U working up to 17U. Most recently, we published our 17U All-HSA third team, and now it’s time to unveil the second team.

17U All-HSA 3rd team | 16U All-HSA | 15U All-HSA
The Atlanta Allstars operated with a trio of skilled bigs who all drew major attention from college coaches throughout the spring and summer. Dylan Faulkner was among them.
With his high motor and defensive prowess, Faulkner helped bolster the stingy Atlanta Allstars defense. At an athletic 6-foot-9, he’s a high-level rim protector who often sees block totals north of five per game. Faulkner’s mobile and can switch and defend out on the perimeter as well. He’s a vacuum on the boards who eliminates second chances for opponents and secures them for his team. Faulkner impressed on offense with his versatility and ability to stretch the floor and hit shots from the perimeter.
After heating up in July and playing some or his best basketball of the 2022 travel season, Faulkner picked up a slew of offers at Best of the South. Since then, he announced his commitment to Lipscomb. The Bisons are getting someone who has the ability to get to the point where he’s in Defensive Player of the Year conversations in the ASUN.
On one of the first weekends of the season, I saw Nixon for the first time and raved about him as a guard that more people needed to know about. The work he put in culminated in a 20-plus-point outburst against high-major prospects in Xavier Booker and Garwey Dual at Best of the South. Under the bright lights, in front of a host of college coaches from all levels, Nixon showed that he can go up against the best of the best and thrive in a high-pressure environment.
The 6-foot-1 guard plays with a bit of electricity to his game. He’s a high-octane scorer who can heat up in a hurry. Nixon can score it from all levels, and he’s great at creating space for himself to get his quick shot off. He has nice step-back and pull-up games that’re lethal from mid range and extends out to the 3-point line.
With his ability to score, and the demand for shooting at the next level, Nixon is an underrecruited guard. He’s a guy that will be able to provide a spark on offense for his future college team, and we’ve seen that he wants the ball in the biggest moments.
One of the themes around this time of year is consistency. During the spring and summer, a player can catch lightning in a bottle and have a hot weekend, but being able to replicate high levels of production on a week-by-week basis is more valuable. When it comes to Dawson Barr, stretch the scope out even further because we’ve seen him perform on a year-by-year basis. He epitomizes consistency.
At 6-foot-4, Barr is a guard who can thrive both on and off the ball. He checks off a ton of boxes with his multi-level scoring, good positional size, exceptional passing, and toughness. I feel confident in saying that there’ll be a time when Barr is making noise somewhere at the next level, and at HoopSeen HQ, we’ll be sitting back thinking, “duh, we tried telling you guys about him.”
We were fortunate to get to see a lot of Norcross Heat and Keishawn Hampton during the travel season. This group racked up a lot of wins and played in a ton of close, memorable games. Even in losses, they competed as well as anyone. A big part of their success was Hampton’s play at the point guard spot.
He’s a quick guard who can go into microwave mode and turn a close game into a blowout in the blink of an eye. Hampton is at his most lethal from the 3-point line. If he sees a shot go down, expect several more to follow. Over the course of the spring and summer he showed that he’s a great distributor and a pesky defender as well.
Hampton has been garnering interest from a number of schools after his great summer. Emory & Henry and Thomas University are the most recent to extend offers to the Norcross Heat star.
When we were at Best of the South, I was watching Devaki Garr and the Tennessee Tigers, and Garr was out there lighting it up like we got to see him do so many times throughout the spring. That moment inspired me to fire off a tweet about how Garr was one of the most under recruited guards at the event.
His combination of speed and the ability to get blazing hot from the 3-point line had us buzzing whenever we got to see Garr. If we were compiling a list of the best shooters we had play on our stage this season, Garr would have to be among the first names listed. Watching him rattle off somewhere north of five 3-pointers in a game became such a common occurrence that it became more of the norm than the exception.
