2022 Best of the South Top Overall Performers, II
ATLANTA—We’re still recovering from a phenomenal week of basketball at Best of the South, but the work never stops here at HoopSeen. We’ve gone over some of our top performers from the week, and we’re happy to come back with another round of standouts from Best of the South.
When I talk to coaches at the next level about a player, one of the first things that always comes up is whether or not they can shoot or not. Well, when I’ve taken in MTXE games this spring and summer, Dunham has lit it up from the perimeter, and he did so again when I got to see him at Best of the South. The 6-foot-4 guard will be able to make an impact right away in college because of his ability to shoot it. During one of his better games of the weekend, I was sitting with a college coach, discussing how well Dunham was playing, and he half-jokingly asked me to keep Dunham a secret. Sorry, Coach, I had to spill the beans on this one. The guy’s too good to let fly under the radar. - Josh Tec
Parlaying a big June with his high school team, Harris drew a good number of coaches to the Best of the South. The rising junior was one of the three-point threats in the field here in Atlanta and he sprayed triples in from all spots on the floor. He has elite size for a two guard at the next level. Everything about him says he’s a top 50 national prospect from the two guard position. - Justin Young
When thinking back to this time last year, this 3D Empire team was a favorite of mine and McWard was one of my favorite players to watch. Catching up to the present, nothing has changed. McWard is a guard that I’d take on my team any day. He was one of the guys that best utilized this platform to benefit himself in the eyes of college coaches. A great shooter and floor general, McWard is someone whose absence is stark when he’s on the bench. I was a few courts down from a 3D Empire game, but I could see McWard hitting shots from across the room which prompted me to gripe about how underrecruited he is. He is going to be an absolute steal for a college program. - Josh Tec
We’ve been fortunate enough to see this Allstars team quite a bit over the years, and Dylan Faulkner has been a consistent standout because of his defense and motor primarily. He showed plenty of that this weekend in a stock-rising outing by amassing strong rebounding numbers and blocking or altering shots with regularity. Faulkner also showed coaches his offensive versatility by scoring consistently from multiple levels. At the high school level, he’s a walking triple-double, and I won’t be surprised when I’m sitting on my couch watching him chase some at the college level too. Wofford and Morehead State offered the 6-foot-9 forward over the weekend, and I’d consider that a smart move on their part. - Josh Tec
With a slew of college coaches on hand for his games, Powell delivered each game. In the game that we saw, Virginia Tech assistant coach Kevin Giltner, UNC-Greensboro Head Coach Mike Jones, Morehead State Head Coach Preston Spradlin along with his assistant and an assistant coach from Drexel, Powell scored 27 points on an array of drives to the basket, three-pointers and mid-range scores. The long and lanky Powell, stands 6-foot-6, and has the size for the next level along with an ability to handle the ball and rebound. He picked up an offer from UNC-Asheville after his play yesterday. - Justin Byerly
