Peach State Standouts from the 2022 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, Pt. II
SUWANEE—Continuing our deep dive into the 2022 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, we’ve been looking to Georgia for some of the standouts from one of the most basketball-rich states in the country. You already know that Georgia provides a deep pool of talent, so we have plenty of names to discuss. We’ve already delved into some of the best, and today, we’ll take a look at some more.
Martin had a tremendous season with King’s Ridge. Martin led the Tigers to a state title appearance, and he’s continued that momentum into the travel season. The steady Timberwolves guard is one of the better 3-point shooters in the state and showed some of that off over the weekend. Martin is a major reason why this Timberwolves group is so tough to defend because he has deep range on his jumper, and he’s great as a primary initiator on offense. He utilizes a change of speeds and a crafty skillset to get to his spots on the floor and create for himself or others. Martin is a guard that has led to a lot of wins in high school and on the travel circuit. I have faith that he will do the same at the college level as well. - Josh Tec
The 6-foot-5 Atlanta Allstars guard had one of his better weekends of the spring on one of the best stages to do so. Etter is a fantastic, consistent shooter, and if you let him get to his midrange jumper or floater, he can do serious damage. As with the rest of the Allstars bunch, Etter is a smart player that excels in a defensive-oriented system. He checks a ton of boxes that coaches look for at the next level. - Josh Tec
The cover photo says it all. Thornton brought a different level of intensity all weekend. Where he shined was on the defensive end. With each stop, Thornton’s energy increased. It was impossible to miss how much winning meant to Thornton throughout the weekend. His desire and energy helped fuel Huncho at times, and that didn’t go unnoticed. A lot of the time there tends to be an over emphasis on the offensive side of the ball, which I understand. It’s easier to point to offensive stats to bolster a statement, but defense and the finer details of the game are just as meaningful. I know Thornton can score the ball, but it was his defense and emphasis on winning that impressed me the most. - Josh Tec
The 6-foot-6 guard from Thomasville (GA) HS was a nice revelation for us in this setting. He was a dynamic scorer from the wing, connecting on triples with ease. He showed that he can score at multiple levels, too. Jackson was also terrific as a rebounder from the wing. He was incredibly active on the glass as a second chance guy. - Justin Young
Coming off of a season in which he led Westside in just about every statistical category, and a state championship, Hudson displayed more of the same with the Southern Kings this past weekend. This dude just gets things done on the court. Hudson impacts the game in every way. He does so because he’s so versatile and can slot in at multiple spots on the floor. Hudson creates and scores the ball well from multiple levels. He uses his positional size, length, and some of that Augusta toughness to be an impactful rebounder and defender. Augusta always wins when it matters most, and it’s guys like Hudson that get it done. - Josh Tec
