HoopSeen Bob Gibbons TOC Day Two Notebook

SUWANEE, GA - Day two of The Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions was how we would have expected. The crowds got bigger and the games were more intense with bracket play beginning. Let's take a look at who shined from day two.

What is Duke Getting?

Florida Rebels forward Sean Stewart was probably the best player that I have seen so far this weekend from a long-term standpoint. The 6-foot-8 forward showed what has made him a national recruit and why he will be suiting up in Durham, North Carolina for Head Coach Jon Scheyer. He has length, college-ready frame, and the athleticism that you have come to expect from one of the top programs that college basketball has ever seen. Stewart has a motor that allows him to make an impact on both sides of the ball throughout the game. He has big hands and a wide stance in the paint, Stewart was one of the more vocal players that we covered throughout the event, something that will only help him at the next level.

16U Brackets

The 16U Black Bracket is shaping up to be a monster. To start the morning off, we have Team Bradley Elite taking on Team Curry, Atlanta All-Stars taking on Cave Gym Elite, Team Carroll Premier taking on Team CP3 and Georgia Stars taking on the Miami Blue Rays.

In the White bracket, AE5 is taking on Drive Nation, Bad Boys is matched up with Emerald Force, HoopSeen HSA program Tennessee Tigers faces Team Loaded NC and Alabama Fusion takes on Team Wall.

All of this is the 8AM slot here at Gibbons. ALL OF THIS.

There is a potential for Team Loaded NC and Team Wall in the final four of the White bracket and the potential of Team Curry and Team CP3 in the finals of the Black bracket.

Team Wall guard Dakota Gordon went off yesterday in the afternoon game for Team Wall 17's. The guard out of Raleigh, North Carolina knocked down nine three-pointers en route to 31 points on the game. He was unconscious from beyond the arc and showed that a smooth shot and getting your feet set was his way of taking the game over. He didn't try to force any shots and took his opportunities when he had them.

Team Trezz Has Arrived

We have been covering Team Trezz for a few years now. The program from eastern North Carolina has solidified themselves as one of the top independent teams in the country with their showing on the biggest stages that we offer for a few years now, going back to the 2019 Best of the South. This year's squad is no different. Led by Head Coach Rod Williams, Trezz has a match-up with Nike EYBL member Florida Rebels this morning. The play of forwards Dylan Purnell, Torey Alston and Treyvon Byrd along with the guard play of Keyon Webb, has them looking for another win to advance in the Bob Gibbons.

The big three of Purnell (29 points), Keyon Webb (25 points) and Treyvon Byrd (21 points) were outstanding in their win over Atlanta Timberwolves to advance to Sunday of The Bob Gibbons.

Purnell is a guy that can cause a lot of problems and his explosive athletic ability is something college coaches have to take a look at. He has a nice scoring game where he can make shots from the perimeter and he can get a lot of rebounds on both sides.

Keyon Webb

Webb has the handle and the guard game to pour in a lot of buckets and his mid-range game has been on all weekend. His 25 points against The Atlanta Timberwolves were from all over the floor. He can get into the lane, where he either scores or he finds an open teammate when the defense collapses.

Byrd has the look of a guy that can play at the next level with his length and athleticism. He is fun to watch in the open floor. His size and ability to finish has been on par with some of the best players we have seen all weekend and honestly all travel season. He is at the moment committed to Cape Fear CC but has fully qualified.
