Tennessee had a good showing in Alabama this past weekend at HoopSeen’s Bama Jam. The Volunteer State took home plenty of championship gold at the end of the weekend. I’ve already touched on some standouts in part I and part II of my coverage. Here are five more names that caught my attention. 

Devin Hill (MTCS), 2023, 6'5, WF/PF
STARS Nashville 17U-Moran

Nice looking athlete showed his prowess on both ends of the floor with several crowd-pleasing blocks and some serious flushes inside on unsuspecting defenders. He runs the floor and was at his best on the break. In the half-court he moves well without the ball, he slashes and can put it down for a few dribbles while gliding to the hoop for scores. He challenges every shot and was adept at blocking not only his guy but helping off and adding several more. As his games moves along he will need to add some perimeter work to his basketball essay. All his work was done in the paint and at his size, that will be next step in his evolution. 

Ashton Munson (East Hamilton) 2024, 5'11 PG
EAB Tennessee 3SSB 16U 

Fearless competitor is an in-your-face defender who likes the thrill and competition of this venue. He is relentless at both ends of the court. He challenges shots, he bodies up and he makes plays off the ball with tips and deflections. He sees the floor and is a willing passer. His shot is slow mechanically but it is workable without a doubt. He tends to leave his feet for passes and has a tendency to make tough decisions when he gets sped up. Once his maturity level coincides with his effort and skill level the sky will be the limit for this young man. His game is predicated on work and that is exactly what will define him as he moves forward.

STARS Nashville 2024 UAA Rise

Big fella caught my attention with his fundamentally sound game. Lefty with amazing hands, he uses his size to create space and was efficient scoring on the block. He keeps the ball high and was relentless on pursuit for offensive caroms. He has a good feel for his defender and senses the double team so he watches cutters and shooters spotting up for daggers. He has stamina as he played long stretches without coming out of the game. He will need to work on using his off hand more, as most lefty kids are very lefty. His progress will be predicated on his work ethic, he has an amazing high school mentor; as well as, the bonafide staff for his championship squad so watch as his progress continues its upward trend.  

Barrett Burchyett (CBHS), 2024, 6'9, C
DA House 2023

Big strong traditional post player who caught my eye with his consistent effort against one of the best post players in the event. He never backed down despite a large disparity in size and athleticism. He bodies up, uses his strong lower half for positioning and is accomplished on both sides of the glass. He has a nice outlet pass and will run the floor as well. He has decent hands that allowed him to make several buckets on the block. He showed the will to drop a short jumper but seemed hesitant at times. As he develops adding this to his game will only enhance his overall profile.

Team Heavy 2024

Young man caught my eye with his effort and relentless pursuit of the ball, be it the offensive or defensive glass. He was active in the half-court, always moving and cutting to the rim. He was able to score in a multitude of ways, off the carom, the pass and with a short dribble and score. He used both hands well around the rim and even knocked down a few outside shots to add to his resume. He moved his feet on defense and played with emotion which caught my eye. I look forward to seeing him down the road and measuring his progression.
