16U HoopSeen Association Power Rankings - April 30, 2022
The spring travel season has a good month and a half of data into the algorithms and our HoopSeen Association power rankings are ready for the true debut of the 2022 season. Who stands at the top in the 17U, 16U and 15U divisions? Our team dives into the data.
1. Team Wall (11-1)
Signature Win: 3D Empire, 51-27, Grassroots Showcase.
BP’s Take: This is a talented 16U group that has picked up big win after big win. I’m talking about big wins over really talented teams. Led by the dynamic Jayden Harris, Team Wall has multiple guys that can thrive behind the attention he gets on defense. Ryan Crotty can shoot it with the best of ‘em, and Ari Fulton has the tools to be a consistent walking double-double. I know that coaches are not prioritizing the 2024 class; however, this group deserves those looks.
Stockriser: I’m sure this comes as no surprise, but Jayden Harris has had a terrific start to the travel season. At 6-foot-5, Harris has the size, skill, and athleticism you want to see at the wing position. Wiry, long, and explosive, Harris can score it at will and looks incredibly smooth doing so. In likely his best game of the season thus far, he went for 30 points, knocking down five 3-pointers in just the first half alone. He has been a frequent flier on our top performers list and has looked the part of a HM prospect this spring. - Brianna Patton
Next in Line: Ryan Crotty has consistently been one of the best shooters on our circuit. He can fill it up beyond the arc and has proven to be a great addition to this Team Wall squad. His knock down shooting out on the perimeter bodes well with their dynamic guards that like to attack off the dribble. At 6-foot-4, he has the size and shooting capabilities that college coaches yearn for. - Brianna Patton
2. AOT (3-1)
Signature Win: Team Knight 3SSB, 59-43, HoopSeen Tip-Off.
JT’s Take: From a pure talent perspective, I haven’t seen many 16U teams as deep as this AOT team. They have one of the best prospects in the 2024 class in Ace Bailey, and they surround him with other lengthy forwards and guards that can shoot the lights out. I have a hard time seeing this team losing many games during this travel season. - Josh Tec
Stockriser: Is Ace Bailey too obvious? Probably so, right? My guy here is Brett Wright then. Already 6-foot-5, Wright pairs size with knockdown shooting from the perimeter. Who doesn’t want that? During his time at HoopSeen Tip-Off, Wright had our staff buzzing about his ability to score the ball and about his potential as a next-level player. I have no doubt in my mind that his recruitment is going to be a much-followed one. He’ll continue to generate buzz around his name as the summer goes on. - Josh Tec
Next in Line: I’ve been high on him since seeing him with McEachern during the high school season, and I remained high on him after seeing him with AOT, so I’m going with Jayden McMillon here. He’s got the build already. Standing at around 6-foot-6, McMillon is a versatile piece that can play inside and out. Right now, he’s a force on the boards. He absolutely embraces rebounding battles. During the high school season and at Tip-Off, McMillon showed off a jumper with range out to the 3-point line. He can hit consistently from there now, but I imagine that skill will continue to develop into a scary, bonafide weapon. - Josh Tec
3. Team Mookie (8-1)
Signature Win: WI Blizzard Nordgaard, 50-48, Grassroots Showcase.
JT’s Take: There’s a lot of talent coming up through this Team Mookie program right now. The rankings speak for themselves. Their 2024 and 2025 teams are in the top three. The next few years are bright up there in Nashville. The 2024 team is going to be a can't-miss for college coaches when they start spotlighting that class more. Guards like Fred Bailey and Cole McCormick are no-brainers, and the talent doesn’t stop there. There’s a player for coaches at all levels on this team. I know I’ll be around watching them whenever I get the chance. - Josh Tec
Stockriser: Of all the 2024 prospects I’ve gotten to see for the first time this spring, nobody has jumped off the page and smacked me in the face like Fred Bailey. I pulled up to a gym during Atlanta Jam, and as soon as I sat down Bailey announced himself as a name to know. Quick, shifty, unselfish, smart, and tough are all qualities I want in a point guard, and Bailey checks all of those boxes. As we progress later in the summer, and 2024 players start to see their recruitments take off, I’d expect Bailey’s phone to start heating up. - Josh Tec
Next in Line: Cole McCormick is an obvious pick for me here. He’s a 6-foot-4 guard that can fill a lot of roles on the floor. He can play big, rebound, and guard in the post. He’s also a serious 3-point threat with the ability to make a play off the bounce. McCormick plays an all-around, well-rounded game and gives this Mookie squad a ton of versatility. - Josh Tec
