Jones capped off his final season at Pelham high, averaging 24 points, three assists, and almost two steals a game.

He was crowned Shelby Country’s player of the year and joined an exclusive club as a high school baller with hitting 2,000 career points.

Jones Selects Portland State

After pulling in an offer from Southern Miss, many assumed that Jones would join the good olé Eagle tradition, but he decided to make his own buzz by heading out west.

Jones says the coaching staff is unbelievable and was his top reason to commit fully.

“We sat in the office and discussed their plan for me,” he said. “They’ve been the front runner for a while, and just getting out here on an official was a big part of it.”

Jones said what sealed the deal for him was that it felt like a more elaborate Birmingham, which provided a home feeling for him and was major.

What does Jones bring to Portland State?

He truly embodies the role of “Floor General” with his excellent ball control and high IQ in the game. Jones does an excellent job getting his teammates involved with his top-notch passing and understands the true value of using the pick & roll.

He is crafty getting into the lane with a nice floater and is just as aggressive knocking down shots around the perimeter. Jones can also bring high energy on defense, and he’s really elite with playing the passing lane, flashing through for a quick steal.
