DC's Atlanta Jam Quick-Takes: Day 2

After spending most of my time with the underclassman on Friday, it felt good to be back at Suwannee for day two of the Atlanta Jam.

Here is a quick recap from day two.

Quick-Takes

I kicked off my day by checking out the All Alabama 17u squad, and one thing I like about this team is that everyone plays with a high motor and rarely takes any plays off.

At this year’s Tip-Off, newcomer Anthony Fairfax caught my attention, but it was 6-foot guard Xzayvion Childress this weekend.

Childress was nonstop speed with the rock, and I love his energy on defense. Yesterday, he caught fire in a strong win over Chattanooga Elite 71-42. He caught fire in the 2nd, knocking down six threes, making the gap even wider for All Alabama.

He would finish with 25 points, and Anthony Fairfax added a solid 12.

Team of the Day

In case no one had the opportunity to see the CP25 AL/MS red team, it’s probably the best team you will see at the Atlanta Jam. This team has pretty much every aspect of their roster covered when it comes to personnel.

They have size, shooters, and all the defensive presence one could ask for around the rim. They’ve yet to lose a game, and most of the wins have been by a landslide.

Available guard JaBorri McGhee has been the talk for the weekend as coaches gathered around to see one of the most elite guards in the gym. So far, he’s put up great double-figure numbers and has been the leading guy for this squad.

Shelton State commit Logan Feltman just continues to be as dominant as possible around the rim. I love his soft touch finishing at the basket, but he can also bring the hammer down with a monster slam.

One of the biggest names of the summer will most likely be 2023 6-foot-6 guard Carson Muse. He’s extremely tough, and boy can this kid bring power around the rim. Every time I looked over, he was soaring to the rim for another dunk.

Top Performance

In one of the best games I have seen this far, the top performance would be 2024’s Jax Abernathy. I could literally go on and on about what a phenomenal player he is. He’s more poised than most, and the game of basketball seems to come naturally.

Abernathy has a smooth jumper and is really headstrong getting into the lane. On defense, he’s just as effective catching blocks and using his quick hands to get the steal. Though his team fell short in an intense matchup that came down to the wire, I couldn’t ignore the performance he put on the entire game.
