DC's Atlanta Jam Quick-Takes: Day 1
The travel season is back in full swing, and our first live period event kicked off at this year’s Atlanta Jam.
Before diving into the upperclassmen, I decided to start the weekend off sight to check out some potential future prospects.
Here is a quick recap from day one of the ATL Jam.
Quick-Takes
Watching these young guys go at it is truly a sight to see; there’s no agenda, just nonstop competition. I witnessed some pretty solid players that could possibly be on the rise.
CP25’s 15u 6-foot guard Kelton Battle was a player that got my attention from the jump. I really liked his energy and the way he approached the game. I thought the kid was fearless and didn’t flinch from any pressure thrown his way. Battle has a great shot, and didn’t hesitate to let it fly.
Avery Harris was another player that caught my interest as he put up some great numbers for the 15u PSB elite team. He plays aggressively with nonstop energy on both sides of the floor. Harris has a really high motor and can apply that same energy on the defensive end. He has a nice jumper and is quite swift in getting to the basket.
PSB elite had another guard that could go in Towan Silers, which went off from the wing. He had one of the best scoring performances that I saw from an underclassman. He has a phenomenal shot as he knocked down six threes finishing off the game with 25pts.
Next up was 6-foot-6 big Oliver Wilson playing with the Grassroots NC 16u team. Wilson was a breath of fresh air to see a bug that knew his way around the post. He seems to have an excellent IQ of the game and understands where he can really thrive on the court. Wilson has a soft touch around the rim, but I was really impressed by his shot from around the key.
Top Performance
The top performance from Day one would have to be Dalton Jackson from CP25’s 15u squad. He came slashing to the basket from the gate, getting to the basket with ease and playing with that killer instinct.
Jackson didn’t give the defense a chance to breathe as they went at them for the entire game. I was impressed how he was able to draw the foul and made the opposing team pay for it at the line.
Looking forward to seeing how well Jackson plays throughout the weekend.
