Several players start spring strong at Alabama Preview
There were a handful of guys that had a solid camp at the Alabama Elite Preview. Here are the players that were reliable and consistent throughout the day.
Darian Adams, 2016 SG, Carver-Montgomery: Adams had a solid, all-around day at the Alabama Elite Preview. The 6-foot guard did a little bit of everything. He has the ability to score anywhere on the floor with his shooting touch, strength, and IQ. He proved he was one of the best scoring guards in attendance. |
Felix Hayes, 2017 SG, Baldwyn (MS): Hayes made the short trip over from Mississippi and made his trip worthwhile. The strong guard made a statement with his athleticism and competitiveness, as he was a highlight reel waiting to happen. However, he also hit some shots from the outside and put himself amongst the best shooters at camp. |
Trai James, 2016 PG, James Clemens: James isn’t the flashiest guy to take the court, but he sure does get the job done. The 6-foot floor general is one of the most solid pure point guards Alabama has to offer. He does a great job of facilitating for his teammates, as well as controlling the pace of the game. He doesn’t have many schools on him now, but he is easily one of the best point guards the state has to offer. |
DeAndre Robinson, 2017 SF, Monroe County: Robinson was the most versatile guy in camp. Hi size and athleticism allows him to play inside and outside, and he was great at doing both. At 6-foot-7, the sophomore has great length. He can finish at the rim, as well as extend his game out to the perimeter and make plays. This could be a big AAU season for him. |
Justin Ross, 2018 PG, Central Phenix City: There wasn’t a more explosive player that packed the punch like Justin Ross did over the day. The freshman has a great first step that allows him to make plays as a point guard. He consistently made plays throughout the day with his combination of size and explosiveness. |
De’Nigel Scruggs, 2016 C, Jackson-Olin: There wasn’t a player that got it done better on the glass Saturday than De’Nigel Scruggs. The 6-foot-7 big man was the best rebounder in camp, as he rebounded inside and outside of his area. Scruggs hasn’t been playing basketball long, but his offensive game is starting to come along. Once he masters multiple post moves on the block, he will be a solid post player at the next level. His potential is through the roof. |
Terryonte Thomas, 2017 CG, New Hope (MS): Thomas flew under the radar most of the camp because of his mindset. The 6-foot-2 combo guard has a pass-first mentality and he passed the ball great. He consistently looked to set his teammates up and give them more opportunities to score. His unselfishness and ability to get others involved is the reason why he holds a couple of offers right now. |
Evan Wiley, 2016 SF, Lee-Huntsville: Wiley had a solid day of competition, as he competed, played hard, and battled consistently. He had a successful camp in all facets of the game. He finished around the rim, hit some 3s, and rebounded at a high rate. At 6-foot-6, Wiley has great size for a combo forward at the low-major level. Richmond is his only offer to this point, but he will add some more in April. |
Brandon Wright, 2016 CG, Ramsay: Wright quietly had a successful day. The 6-foot guard has the ability to play both guard positions, and he did so effectively. He has great length and size for a guard that allows him to be a problem on defense. He can also rebound amongst big men and hold his own. He will be an intriguing guy to follow for lower level coaches. |
