Fastbreak Friday: First big visit weekend of the season

With college football now underway across the country, college basketball coaching staffs are playing host to prospects. Let’s take a look at the acton around the nation in this week’s edition of Fasbtreak Friday.

CAMPUS OF THE WEEKEND: Florida State

Florida State plays host to Notre Dame for a prime time Sunday night game in Tallahassee. The Seminoles are also playing host to two major targets - Jaden Bradley and Cameron Corhen.

The Seminoles are no strangers to landing and developing talented multi-postinial guards and big men with big upsides. Bradley, a North Carolina native, is one of the premier point guards in the country and primed for a big senior season at IMG Academy. Corhen, a Dallas, Texas native, is one of the more interesting post players in the class of 2022. His recruitment is nationwide and the Noles were one of the first out of the region teams to recruit him.

VISITOR OF THE WEEKEND

Jaxon Kohler to Iowa. The Utah native hits the road for the first of his fall official visit tour and the Hawkeyes of the Big Ten get first crack at the highly skilled big man from Southern California Academy.

I discussed Kohler’s visit to Iowa on this week’s Just a Minute episode with Austin Smith earlier in the week.

He will also take trips to USC, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Keep an eye on this one, too - Michigan State offered him a scholarship. Kohler, like I mentioned in the video above, is hot right now. Scorching. Kohler scored 53 points and 23 rebounds in a game at the recent Pangos All-American Showcase. He’s got a game that lends to that type of production. That’s why he’s in such high demand for these post-centric programs.

MAJOR VISITORS WEEKEND NATIONWIDE

The star power is on the road for visits across the country. Let’s take a look at some of the five-star visitors of note.

Kentucky gets a shot with Arkansas guard Nick Smith. The 5-star guard is one of the premier prospects in the nation, and truth be told, one of the best players that should be playing college next fall.

Texas will play host to in-state stud Cason Wallace, one of the more impressive combo guards in the country. He’s a mixture of size, speed, scoring and upside. With Aterio Morris already on board with the Longhorns, a potential pairing with Wallace makes for a scary, scary future if it all comes together.

Florida has an important slate of visitors in Gainesville. Noah Clowney is coming to town and the big man from South Carolina is the guy the Gators want to pair with Malik Reneau. Guard Justyn Fernandez will also be in the Sunshine State for a visit.

Marquette will host a pair of top targets: Christian Watson and Malik Dia. Virginia Tech will play host Rodney Rice and Tyler Nickel.

ARIZONA VISITORS

The state of Arizona has some notable storylines coming and going. Let’s start with Arizona State. The Sun Devils have two important visitors in Tempe. After landing a pair of commitments last weekend from Duke Brennan and Malcolm Flaggs from Hillcrest, the Sun Devils continue to tap into the state-based basketball-centric program. This week, new AZ Compass Prep forward Collin Smith will take a trip to his new local school. He’ll be met there by fellow Texan Austin Nunez on the visit.

Elijah Saunders, one of the most underrated players in the nation, will take an official visit to Notre Dame. The 6-foot-8 forward from Phoenix fits the mold for the type of four man that has shine for Mike Brey over the years.

New Dream City Christian point guard Milos Uzan took a mid-week trip to Utah for an official visit. The Utes have prioritized the Las Vegas native.

MID-MAJOR WATCH

There are a number of Florida guards that are taking trips to important mid-major programs this weekend. Keep an eye on the following players: Jamar Franklin is visiting South Alabama and AJ Brown is visiting Ohio.

A pair of Upward Star travel teammates are on the road - Big man Micah Handlogte is visiting Youngstown State and Justin Bailey will be at USC Upstate.

UTEP will host Langston Reynolds out of Colorado.
