2021 All-HoopSeen Association Team: 2nd team
The 2021 HoopSeen Association season is in the books and we are happy to announce our first ever All-HSA team. Our staff considered the full season, impact on events played, consistency, success as an individual player and his value to his team and head-to-head competition. Meet our second team selections.
Boldin caught the eyes of our staff early on in the travel season due to his athleticism and highlight play potential. The 6-foot-5 guard can absolutely jump with the best of them. It does not matter if there is a 7-footer in the lane; he will still try to throw it down if he gets any type of forward momentum. His athleticism and explosiveness makes him such a big threat with the ball in his hands due to his quick first step and ability to change directions mid-air. Boldin seemed to save his best performances for last as he was one of the overall top performers at the Grassroots Summer Championships in Orlando, FL. With tons of coaches in attendance, he averaged 25 PPG through his first four games. - Brianna Patton
Recruiting Situation: Boldin stated that he is hearing the most from the University of North Florida, FAMU, Coppin State, and FAU. He also picked up offers from Albany State, Barry University, and Lynn University since the conclusion of the Grassroots Summer Championship.
Colby McAllister came into the travel season with a chip on his shoulder. Coming up short in this year’s state championship game was all the motivation he needed to bring that killer instinct. McAllister is a sharpshooter from the three, and he is flat out one of the best high-volume shooters in his class. He attacks the rim aggressively and has enough control to finish with contact. The best quality about McAllister is his never-quit attitude; he’s going to give defenders buckets until the last buzzer.
After finding a home with Team Speights AL, McAllister gave everyone a glimpse of how he was gearing up for the live period at this year’s Bob Gibbons. At Best of the South, McAllister was in a zone putting on a shooting clinic. This 6-foot-3 guard came through to show coaches that he was ready for the next level. For the Grassroots Summer Championship, McAllister wanted to finish strong, averaging almost 25ppg, and constantly made noise going for rebounds. McAllister destroyed teams all summer with his quick stroke from the three. - D’Courtland Christian
Signature Moment: Best of the South.
“The Best of the South was one of the largest live periods this summer; over 530 teams and 300 college coaches, it was the perfect stage to showcase your game. No player embraced this moment more than Colby McAllister. In one of his best games, he put on a stellar performance on one of the hottest courts in the gym, surrounded by college coaches. In a match-up against the Wisconsin Rap, McAllister got the hot hand and scorched them with six threes finishing with 29 points. He put everyone on notice that he was an elite player.”
Recruiting situation:
This kid has begun to turn a lot of heads during this travel season and has been contacted by a significant number of colleges such as Gardner Webb, Delta State, North Alabama, UAB, Lipscomb, and Memphis, to name a few.
He has undoubtedly finished his last travel season on a high note grabbing his first D1 offer and now has fully committed to The Citadel. - D’Courtland Christian
Looking back on the spring slate of our travel events, there was a Yerald Mieses flavor. The Tennessee Tigers had a tremendous showing at our Jam Series. The Nashville-based squad one a bracket at the Bama Jam and showed out at the Atlanta Jam. Mieses was outstanding in these settings. Few guys pumped in the points and put the pressure on the defense quite like he did.
The native of the Dominican Republic was a no-brainer top performer at both stops on our HSA circuit. He was brilliant every time he stepped onto the court with the Tigers.
Signature moment: How do you grade greatness? Check the win column. Mieses was a catalyst in a Bama Jam title run. We wrote:
“What a weekend it was for the unsigned senior. He was a huge part of the success the Tigers had in Hoover over the weekend. The 6-foot-2 guard from Hamilton Heights averaged 12 points, 5.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals a game en route to the 17U Orange championship of the 2021 Bama Jam. Mieses was such a problem in every category of the game. If you look at his HoopSeen profile you’ll see glowing review after glowing review of his efforts throughout the years on our platform. He’s consistently productive and usually on the winning side of a game. For mid-major programs looking for an impact player from the high school ranks, Mieses is a good place to look. He has great film whether in scholastic settings or with the Tigers over the weekend. Good place to start? Check out his game on Be The Beast against B.H.A. Blazers in the title game. He was brilliant.”
Recruiting Situation: Mieses committed to Division II powerhouse Lincoln Memorial in April.
Sanford made his debut at the Grassroots Summer Championships in Orlando with Team United and instantly became one of the top players we have seen this travel season. Sanford is an athletic forward that gets a lot of his points around the rim and is full of energy on both sides of the ball. He was instrumental in Team United’s run to the championship game against 3D Empire. Sanford is a double double machine that is constantly on the move for rebounds and going after the loose ball. He has broad shoulders and long arms with big hands along with a soft touch around the rim. He likes to play above the rim and had a monster put back dunk to force overtime in the championship game which summed up his aggressiveness and his play for the weekend in Florida.
Recruiting Situation: He has plans to take an official visit to Tennessee in August and is being recruited by the SEC and some mid-major programs. He currently holds offers from Tennessee, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Winthrop, East Tennessee State, South Florida and Western Carolina University.
“With a 13-1 overall record coming into the Final Four here at The Grassroots Summer Championships,Team United out of Charlotte, North Carolina is one of the hottest teams in the country. No team this weekend has played with as much energy as Jermaine Walker's program. With Team United director Ced Canty taking in the action this weekend, the boys from Charlotte have been playing at a high-level. A lot of the energy starts with forward Daniel Hankins-Sanford. The 6-foot-8 forward is a monster on the glass and loves to try and destroy the rims. Louisville football commit Chance Morrow has been super. He showed he can knock down shots from the outside and he also has that ability to try and break rim. Louisville Head Coach Chris Mack may want to give him a call when he lands on campus and get him on the squad as a two-way practice guy on the hardwood. North Mecklenburg High School guard Maxwell Coles has been as steady as they come all weekend and made big shot after big shot to propel Team United to the Final Four with a big match-up in the 10:40 slot against Wisconsin Swing-DePouw.”
After the Thompsons signed with Overtime Elite, Florida Pro needed people to step up and take on the unimaginable task of filling their shoes. Enter Elijah Wyche. With the help of Wyche’s incredible play in the second half of the season, Florida Pro maintained their winning ways. July is when Wyche really started to assert himself as a must-see player each weekend. From Best of the South on, he was someone that our staff got asked about constantly..
Wyche is a high-academic super athlete who impacts the game in more ways than appear on scoresheets. Sure, he can fill it up, but when people talked to me about Wyche’s game, the conversation always seemed to veer towards his upside as a defensive stopper and rebounder. As he continues to develop his outside touch, Wyche has a chance to be a player we hear a lot from at the next level. - Josh Tec
Recruiting Situation: As of now, Wyche has heard from The Citadel, Army, and Palm Beach Atlantic.
Signature Moment: Wyche took a major step forward at Best of the South. He was named as a top overall performer. You can find the rest of that list here. Our Brianna Patton had the following to say about his performance that weekend.
“Wyche was one of the most consistent players in this loaded event. The 6-foot-5 wing has extremely long arms and a ton of athleticism. Helping lead Florida Pro to a 6-1 record on the weekend, Wyche was the leading scorer. He impacted the game on both ends of the floor with a number of college coaches watching each game. His athleticism makes him a huge threat as he constantly plays above the rim. He can knock down open mid range jumpers and finish tough layups with either hand. His quick twitch muscles also allowed him to get easy buckets after grabbing an offensive rebound. Defensively, he flys in to block shots and uses his long arms to cause turnovers. Wyche has a chance to see his recruitment pick up this month.”
