Newman visits two schools
With the high school basketball season complete and time before AAU begins, 2016 Bayside Academy (AL) guard Spencer Newman took the opportunity to visit two college campuses over the weekend.
Wednesday and Thursday the junior visited Oklahoma State, followed by a trip to Central Arkansas Friday and Saturday. Newman says both schools are his only offers to this point.
Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford extended an offer right before school began in August. Newman was very impressed with what he witnessed in Stillwater during his two-day trip.
"The visit went really good," Newman told HoopSeen.com. "The whole visit was very organized and the facilities are state of the art. It felt like the program was really a family."
The Cowboys have had success with guard similar to Newman over the years. They could see him fitting with their team in the future.
"I love the way Travis Ford has a history with guards like me, like Phil Forte and Keiton Page. The coaches told me they think my work ethic and style of play makes me a great fit for the offense they run."
Central Arkansas was another productive and enjoyable trip for Newman.
"Central Arkansas also held the same type of family atmosphere that Oklahoma State had. I got to hang out with the players and get to know them. They were very friendly and all got along great," he explained.
South Alabama, Illinois State, Auburn, Samford, Belmont, Davidson, Tennessee, Wichita State, West Virginia, Alabama, Columbia, and Yale are also involved with Newman's recruitment to this point.
As Newman and his family sort through the recruitment process, they have one main factor when it comes down to a decision.
"A family atmosphere is something I really value in the recruiting process."
Newman will play with Southeast Elite on the adidas Gauntlet series this AAU season.
